Great location, but standards have slipped badly

We’ve stayed at Pullman Hyde Park around four times over the past 12 to 18 months. Each stay has been worse than the last. Basic in-room functionality keeps failing. On our last three stays the room phone did not work. Pressing the guest services button gets no answer or is faulty. When calling the hotel from a mobile, that button doesn’t work, but there are no clear instructions anywhere on how to reach reception if it does not work. They told me someone would come fix the phone - no one came. On our most recent stay, after eventually reaching someone, we asked for ice and a knife to cut a lemon as we were having drinks in the room. Nothing arrived. Housekeeping is inconsistent. Soap, shampoo and conditioner are often empty, suggesting they are not being refilled as standard between guests. On a previous stay we had to ask twice for refills because the first request was ignored. Toilet paper seems a rare commodity and also not replenished. Room service was acceptable, but the tray was left inside our door for two nights. Even after informing staff and it was clearly visible to housekeeping all day and ignored by night staff. The lifts remain a major issue. One has been out of service for at least 18 months. Wait times of up to 15 minutes to get to breakfast or the ground floor are common. It does not appear anything is being done to fix it. Staff listen to complaints and do nothing. The location is excellent. This was once our go-to hotel in Sydney, but based on our recent stays we will be finding somewhere else. We expected more from Pullman and this experience does not reflect well on Accor as a brand.

Don't order food from the pool!

Have stayed here multiple times and this is probably the most disappointing experience so far. The hotel overall is in need of updating, the rooms are good size but cleaning was not great with it being quite dusty in areas, the house cleaning feels very cursory. The light switch was hanging off and the phone and clock were unplugged. Like others have said the lifts are still not all working after several months it seems, so took up to 15 mins to get a lift. View from Pool area and room facing the park were great. The pool area itself is small and can get busy, but didn't see anyone come up to tidy up the rubbish, only to replace towels. Don't bother ordering food from the pool. The app they advertise doesn't requires table number and doesn't accept any kind of entry. Ended up calling to order, the receptionist came up to pool side to confirm order and advised 20 min wait. 50 mins later and two calls, became apparent the order was not placed, no apology from staff or much care. For the price they charge there would definitely be better options in Sydney.

Tired rooms and poor service

Meant to be a 5 star hotel but the rooms are tired and dated. Especially the bathroom. 19th floor carpet outside the lifts are a trip hazard. No complimentary water in our room, telephones in the room don’t work so have to use my mobile to ring reception. Got a Smart TV in the room but it’s not connected to the internet, not very Smart! Housekeeping took all our towels but didn’t replace them, back on the mobile phone. Housekeeping hadn’t been by 3:30pm, then repeatedly kept trying to come into the room when we were occupying it and stating to come back an hour later.

Old, Dilapidated rooms in a good location

This is an old and visibly worn hotel that is in serious need of renovation. The rooms feel tired, with very, very clear signs of deterioration, and it does not meet the standards one would expect from a 5-star property. At best, it compares to a 3–4 star hotel. I would only consider staying here if the rate is significantly lower than other branded / 5-star options in the CBD, or if there are no alternatives available. In our case, the pricing was comparable to several other CBD hotels, which led us to check out after just one night of the five originally booked.

I stayed at the Pullman Hyde park Sydney From 11-13 December, it was a booking made on short notice due to having a busy work schedule in Sydney and with the hotel being quite full there was limited room options, the room itself was poorly cleaned (I've attached photos above), the windows also seem to have not had a clean in a very long time spoiling the view of the park, the amenities such as shampoo were empty and clearly had not been checked and replenished. I left my room on the 12th at 10am and left a please make up my room sign on the door, I returned later in the afternoon after 4 to find no one had been to make up the room, I called reception at 5 after multiple attempts to get through and told them this had not been done and that the shampoo never got replenished, they stated they would sort it out and bring up more shampoo, the shampoo arrived about an hour later and I went out again. It was now about 6 and still no one had been. Also the arm chair lining was sagging and was clearly visible to personnel serving the room, Overall I'm very upset with this stay especially when paying a premium for a 5 star hotel and I feel quite cheated being an Accor gold member, I sent a complaint to the hotel over 2 weeks ago and never heard back, one must question the current management :(
