Great location, rooms have seen better days

We have stayed at this Sebel a number of times over many years. Providing you don't mind the noisy weekend nights it's in a great location. We always book a one bedroom "suite" overlooking the Viaduct. Sadly, the rooms are really showing their age now. Ours, on the third floor, was very knocked around with walls and furniture badly marked. The bathroom door hinges had pulled away from the door jam and wouldn't close but this was fixed promptly when we reported it. When the hair dryer had a melt down and blew out smoke, it was quickly replaced. The shower fan was in need of a clean as was the oven which was very dirty. When we checked in for our 10 day stay we were told we would have to pay a "bond" of $500 to cover any extras (mini bar etc.). We objected, and this requirement was dropped — we had just paid nearly $5,000 up front for the room! The staff were very good, both friendly and efficient. Perhaps this hotel is in its last year or two. Hopefully it will be refurbished.

We have stayed at the Sebel Viaduct Harbour numerous times. It is a very convenient location, handy to transport and restaurants. Some reviews complain about the noise, but it does very much depend on where your room is, as some marina view rooms are close to the bars and restaurants on Viaduct Harbour. The suite we had this time was lovely. Top floor (6th), on the corner, with a view to the harbour bridge one way and a view to the Sky Tower the other. We enjoyed it very much. Some renovation had obviously been done recently (carpet & paint) but the fully equipped kitchen is still dated. Good bathroom. There is a washer and dryer in the suite. The hotel does not have a restaurant, but there are plenty of eating options nearby. We like this hotel very much and will continue using it as our base when we visit Auckland.

This hotel is great and the location probably the best in Auckland. But… how is it possible that you can’t get enough warm water to fill your bath or even have a decent shower? I complained to the reception and they “explained” that each room has their own warm water tank and mine was probably used up.Thanks for nothing. After three months working at sea a hot bath was all I wanted. No compensation was offered.

Would definitely recommend this hotel to family & friends. Staff was friendly from when we first arrived until check out! We had a problem with only one channel and the staff member came straight away and fixed it. Everything is in walking distance the marina view we had was awesome and seeing the weekend life out in viaduct was great!
