Firstly I would like to start by saying I don’t like giving negative reviews but I feel that this time it is warranted. We always stay in the Sebel on our way back from our holidays and we have done this for many years. We have stayed in different levels of rooms over the years. So we are fully aware of the different style and size of rooms. However, this will be our last time. This time we had booked a Marina View Deluxe Apartment. When we arrived we were given the wrong room. We were given a room which was much smaller and not the one that we had booked. My husband went back to reception to let them know and the girl at the desk said you would have needed to request the room and was subject to availability. He told her that he booked over 2 months ago and the room was available as he booked it. She said all those rooms are booked out and not available now. Even though we had booked and paid for the bigger room. When he asked ‘how would he know he had to specifically request it at the time of booking even though it was available and he booked it’ she said she couldn’t answer that, she didn’t know. My husband said that doesn’t make sense because it was available when he booked it. She said we had a Deluxe Marina View room. We didn’t because we have previously stayed in a Deluxe Marina View room so we knew the difference. We had a Marina View room which is much smaller. As we are guests that don’t like making issues and she said there were no other rooms available and we had paid for the room we stayed. But this will be the last time. The staff on reception when we arrived were not helpful at all which is not how the staff usually are. Being Accor Gold members we always get a welcome drink for both of us and a welcome letter, this time one little bottle of wine and one chocolate was on the kitchen bench. The tea and coffee box hadn’t been restocked so I had to go and buy tea and coffee. That’s not an issue but you should be able to have a cup of tea when you arrive after a flight, yes we could have rung reception but after the way we were treated we decided to just go to the shop. We went to open the glass door in the lounge room so we could sit on the balcony only to find that the door couldn’t be opened and it had been permanently bolted shut. We couldn’t enjoy the breeze from the harbour. The bathroom had mould in the shower and the tiles were cracked on the floor in many places. The bathroom door was split at the bottom and had peeling paint and one of the lights in the bathroom was not working so the bathroom was very dark. There were marks on the curtains in the bedroom and they looked like food stains and the blind in the lounge room couldn’t be stopped from going down, so we had to leave the blind fully opened. The carpet was covered in stains and looked like it needed a deep clean. We were so disappointed in the way we were treated and the state of the room we have made the decision to never stay here again. It’s such a shame because we have always enjoyed staying here and we love staying here because of the restaurants and cafes at Viaduct Harbour. The hotel is looking very tired and needs some updating but it is the way that the staff treat their guests that really makes a difference. The difference this time was extremely negative and extremely disappointing.

I've stayed here before but not that recently. The room we got (supposedly a Studio suitable for 3 people) was small and pokey. The "City View" completely comprised of a great view of the parking building across the road. The desk was too big for the room which had a single chair. Bed was comfortable and Bathroom was well appointed although water pressure could have been better in the shower. Desk staff were friendly and efficient. AT the price we paid this was VERY poor value for money and I would not stay here again. Very disappointing.

The noise is REALLY an issue ……

Whilst this hotel is certainly well located, with friendly staff it can’t get more than a 3 due to the nightclub noise. As other reviews have said, it is really dreadful - we arrived on a Friday and even on the ‘quiet’ side of the hotel, the bass reverberated through our bones until 5am. Sleep was almost impossible. Dreading Saturday night we fortunately had a reprieve and it wasn’t an issue again (we left Thursday) so depending on your dates, you may not encounter it …….. but it seems like Friday night at least is guaranteed. Other than that, rooms are clean (albeit a little tired) but do have free washers and dryers in the room, as well as a small kitchenette. The location is the best thing- very close to the harbour, many shops and other locations within the Auckland CBD.

Not deserving of The Sebel title, more of a Mecure at best

Location is amazing, but that's where it ends. For the price, this place is just not worth it at all. - Very few car parks and no turning bay to temporarily park in - Aged rooms, damage in places, stained carpet - Incandescent light bulbs... takes me back to 2005 - No USB ports! Madness, even the most basic hotels offer that these days - Toilet lid isn't soft close, small thing but annoying - Queen bed, why even bother, plenty of room for a king - No ability to stream your phone to your TV At least it has a balcony and a fridge. There are better places in the area for the price.

Great location, but but no Accor membership benefits

We had a pre-paid booking here for two nights, mid-week. Having Platinum status with Accor, I received an email the day before, asking my drinks preference (so far, so good). I replied that we preferred white wine. Upon check-in, no mention of our Platinum Accor Plus status. When we went to our room, there was no welcome gift or anything. Upon enquiring, I was told that it was 'on the way'. And we eventually got two small bottles of wine (one red, one white), and two bottles of water. Why bother asking for preference, if the response is not considered? The next day, I enquired why there as no mention of an upgrade (higher floor, or harbour view). I was told this was 'subject to availability - which I totally understand. I asked if the hotel was busy.. I got a non-committal answer ('not so full, not so empty'). However, I had checked online the day before, the second day, and the day after... and there was sufficient availability for better rooms. The 'subject to availability' response was a brush-off, in my opinion. As a Platinum Accor Plus member, I'd have expected better service. and I believe my patronage / membership is taken for granted and not valued. On the positive side, the suite was nice and spacious, and housekeeping did a great job. The kitchen could do with a few more utensils. And the location is great. Given that we were there for only two nights, this was an ok stay. But as there was minimal recognition of Accor loyalty, I would consider other options the next time I'm in Auckland
