I'm normally tolerant but this was appalling - No way this is a 4 star Hotel. Note, some of the photos are from another Hotel not the Central City at 170 Victoria. No room service available, no bar or restaurant and a very small reception area with a few tired dirty chairs and couches. The room - Paint peeling, fittings falling off the wall, dirty walls, it goes on. My very small room had a single chair that was filthy with sweat stains. Desk had stickers from an auction house and overall was very tired and run down. No aircon, no WIFI despite being given 3 x different log-ins, no plates or cutlery. Perhaps some rooms have been renovated but if you have to stay here advise to check room first.

The Mercure City Central Hotel and Apartment in Wellington NZ is below the average Mercure Hotel standard.

The hotel is too old. Bathroom is very basic and too old. Location is good. The staff at the reception is very friendly. There are some kind of machines working day and night on 16th floor, so the noise is quite persistent during the night time.

Not at all up to Accor standards I am generally not a person to complain unless it is necessary, and after our stay at the Mercure Wellington Central City Hotel & Apartments I feel the need to complain. We stayed for eight nights, and if I could have moved us, I would have but there was not availability in town close enough to the conference my husband was attending. I am a Dimond member and an Accor Plus member and this was not recognized at all throughout the stay. Cleanliness of Room The room was in a poor condition, paint chips dirty marks and scruff marks on walls in the room and in the hallway. We found a bottle top on the floor in our room and it was still there when we left. It was under a glass table so not hard to miss. The windows were dirty, no air conditioning and no extractor fan in the bathroom, we had to open the window which made the bathroom very cold. The chairs at the table were dirty and stained, I would not sit on them. Kitchen had dirty marks everywhere. Elevators One elevator was out of order and then we were told the other elevator would be out of order from 10pm to 7am on the Sunday and Monday evening. This meant we had to change our plans for the Sunday evening or walk up 14 flights of stairs. The noise during the night when the elevator was being worked on made it difficult to sleep. Parking This was a five minute walk from the hotel, while in general I don’t have an issue with this what I do have an issue with was feeling unsafe when entering the car park and the smell and sticky floor in the elevator each time we went in. Breakfast Breakfast was included in our room, and if it was not, I certainly would not have been paying for it. It was located off site at the other Mercure hotel a block away and was very average at best. We ate on the Sunday morning at around 8.30am and seemed to be only a couple of tables eating at that time. Food was cold, eggs over cooked. Chef came out to check the buffet and it looked like he just rolled out of bed, was very untied and dirty looking. Staff We cam down from our room several times to find staff gossiping loudly at the front desk and eating dinner. Not a good look at all.

We booked a 1 bedroom apartment for 4 nights. There was no door on the bedroom, which was off the lounge area, so really was a studio room. The shower & bathroom were tiny. The kitchen was tiny but advertised as a "full kitchen" The only lounge sofa was a Fulton, with no back or sides and very low. The balcony door was locked, with a sign asking us to contact reception to access it. There was only 1 lift working and it was slow. The reception staff and the manager were great, very helpful when we said we were not staying after the first night and we moved to Quest Wellington, which was excellent.

Good location and clean comfortable bed. Maintaince is lacking both on the paintwork, heaters and extract fan. Room 101 backs onto a service lane and entry to a club. You get the noise till late and rubbish pick up at 6am. Single glazing doesn't cut out and how the hotel is rated 4 stars is a joke.
