Modeled on the European hotel room style (small space), it has the basics. La Maree restaurant serves a good breakfast and dinner – but nothing outstanding. The location is a short walk to the ferry terminal. It’s a place to sleep and go somewhere else.

We were here with a Tauck tour group, but why they chose this hotel baffles me. This is a very odd hotel, no where close to the the standards of other Sofitels we've stayed at. The room is attractive, and those public spaces that were open are as well. But there is something seriously off with the management here. For instance, there is no thermostadt to control air conditioning, just an unlabeled knob that turns without resistance in either direction for as many turns as you have endurance, and seems to be permanently stuck in iceberg mode. Heat is a standalone "autoeco" device that does allow you to set a digital thermometer, but seems to run too long, putting the room in sauna mode. Other people on our tour said that they experienced the same problems. In our room, the coffee maker didn't function, but the next day they did replace it with one that works. The hotel restaurant should, being a Sofitel, be good, but is middling at best. Maybe I was just unlucky -- my appetizer with literally inedible (really unchewable; it was octopus not cooked long enough), and my main course, well they waited until the other peoples food was delivered to inform me that they had run out of it. It doesn't help my feelings about the place that the next day I came down with all the symptons of food poisining, but I don't have any reason to think that the hotel was a fault.

Great service and very responsive to any needs. Located in the heart of all the restaurants and bars so you can walk to just about all of them. Rooms are undergoing a refresh which was needed. The only negative would be the gym which seems an afterthought and lacking what is provided in other 5 star hotels, however I have an Anytime Fitness membership and there is one 200 meters away.

Our stay at the Sofitel Auckland Viaduct Harbour was memorable and luxurious, highlighted by its stunning harbor views and exceptional service. Pros: • The staff were outstanding — attentive, professional, and genuinely welcoming throughout our stay. • The food was excellent, from breakfast to dinner, with fresh ingredients and beautifully presented dishes. 🥐 • The location couldn’t be better, right on the harbor with easy access to restaurants and city attractions. • The pool and wellness area offered a lovely spot to relax, stylishly designed and well maintained.🏊🏼 • We stayed in the Presidential Suite, and the views were absolutely breathtaking — a true standout feature of the hotel. Cons: • We noticed a small issue with ants in the bathroom, which felt out of place in a suite of this level.🐜 • While the Club Lounge was elegant and the staff wonderful, the canapés didn’t quite measure up to what you’d expect from other five-star properties in the same tier.🥟 Overall: The Sofitel Auckland delivers a refined experience with world-class service, incredible views, and prime harbor access. Despite a few small lapses, the overall stay was delightful. A special thank you to Careem and Shane for their exceptional service — they made our visit feel truly personalized and memorable. We’d happily return for the views, the hospitality, and the unmistakable Sofitel charm.

The Sofitel as a whole was a great venue for our honeymoon, but the club added an extra layer of luxury to our trip. We met Alfredo on one of our first visits, and he was such a treat to speak with. Always brought a laugh or a great story of his travels, and made us feel like we were at home with family. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed his company and wish we were staying longer to have another glass of wine along with some banter. Would highly recommend adding club access to your stay, and make sure you chat with the team to add a level of welcomeness that you may not have thought possible!
