During my stay the wind and rain were more or less incessant. The hotel offered a place to get dry, though it was not especially warm during a couple of cold days in August. Although the hotel appears to be close to a major road, there is no problem with noise. Several large supermarkets are within walking distance, but it's quite a distance to a place with a selection of restaurants. The bar was fine, the restaurant good (but with limited choices). Breakfast was served cold in a bag. I did not go for a stroll around the hotel grounds. No doubt the experience would have been very different if the weather had been more pleasant.

Dear Russell Thank you for your review and I am pleased you enjoyed your stay The hotel reopened on the 1st August and our approach has been to open up our services in our gradual way so we can focus on them ensure we are doing so in a safe way. We are now serving breakfast in our restaurant and it is an At Seat concept with the continental selection served from a trolley and the cooked served plated both to guests tables. Our restaurant menu has been reduced but we will soon be extending it so a full offering is available Kind regards David

Lovely grounds just a bit tired

Firstly the hotel is set in lovely grounds and not far from popular places. The hotel is a little tired and the bedrooms need a reburbish. We booked on an offer of new opening due to Covid. The Mercure website promised us two nights bed and breakfast with one night evening meal, we Were also promised, slippers, robes and newspapers. What we got was a bag breakfast and what I would call a snack evening meal. I.e burger or pizza. We never received robes or slippers or newspapers which is what we upgraded to. This was definitely misrepresented by Mercure and we needed up paying more than we would have had we paid for our meals? Once this hotel is back up and running on all cylinders because of its location I would stay again as the staff are very friendly and the bed was very comfortable.

We have now been open for six weeks and most of our services are now open, although operating differently to ensure covid safety. have nothing but positive feeling for my stay at this hotel, all hotel staff that i spoke to were exceptionally polite in every aspect to my requests, the location was great not to far away from Hull town centre

Weekend break

The hotel was chosen to facilitate visiting a part of GB that we had not previously visited. We took the opportunity to visit Hornsea & Cleethorpes in addition to the retail centre of Hull. Because of walking difficulties we requested a ground floor room or one near to a lift - perhaps mindful of a large social evening being held at the hotel during our stay we were provided with a large room (201) within the converted roof space at second floor level that was close to the lift. Unfortunately the lift broke down during the stay but this was not the fault of the management. The room itself was good but with more forethought could have been excellent. Why have a king size bed fitted within a headboard and side shelf designed for a super king/queen size bed. The absence of power sockets next to the bed was frustrating. A large, modern shower room had a non-operative heated towel rail - this left the room very cold until a fan heater plugged in within the bedroom made the room temperature more comfortable. Whilst electrical heating equipment should not be used in such manner for H & S reasons we were at least able to continue using the room at our own risk. I understand from staff that all towel rails are presently decommissioned so 0 marks for failure to introduce a permanent alternative. The hotel has previously benefited some 20 years+ ago from considerable investment to create the present level of facilities now enjoyed by guests and outside individual or corporate bodies. Sadly this level of investment has not been matched by ongoing levels of care and maintenance externally - rotted joinery and bare or flaking paintwork surfaces could be seen in several locations. However, maintenance of the grounds and associated planting was to a good standard. We did not use the restaurant - the menu looked expensive for the food on offer. Our breakfast experience varied considerably. Whilst the overall variety of food was adequate for a 3* hotel I found the absence of scrambled egg the first two mornings somewhat disappointing. I was told that only fried eggs were available. A large number of guests appeared to stay over the Saturday night function so this ensured that food dishes for the sunday breakfast were continually being refilled - so the food was hot and fresh. Nobody appears to have told the breakfast chef that the hotel was nearly empty - so dishes were filled only to be left to become overcooked and generally past their best. Overall could do better.

Dear Keith L Thank you for your review You have given some really constructive feedback especially about coat hangers and power sockets next to headboard. This we will look at next session of refurbishment. We did take your comment onboard about lack of heating in Room 201 bathroom. We have installed a new and functioning heated towel rail in there. The hotel did get refurbished in 2016/2017 involving meeting space and bedrooms, however in our business we have to consistently improve to keep up. Many thanks to Jeff for making a standard stay a great stay. Upgraded on booking - to a quiet room at the back of the hotel. Good nights sleep - nice bed Spa area good - but could do with a refurbishment of changing facilities. Will be back when we are next in the area.

In desperate need of renovation

We had four rooms for two nights. The issues we encountered were; black mould on the windows, missing toilet seat, bathroom doors not closing, falling down curtains, lights not working, dirty, grubby furnishings and cups, paper thin walls... and mattresses where even the children could feel the springs. We would not recommend this hotel nor would we return.

the hotel check in was good but although we had a privilege room there was little cloths storage with no draws or wardrobe just a very short rail behind the mirror otherwise the room was good with a fridge. the bathroom was poor with a cracked sink. the restaurant was good with an excellent breakfast and evening meal and the staff were very helpful.

My husband and I stayed over Christmas - we really just wanted a bed as the family don't have room to put us up. The Mecure served this purpose brilliantly. The rooms were clean and well appointed. Breakfast was great and the staff were cheerful, despite working over Christmas. My husband used the swimming pool complex and reported a few issues with maintenance there. Overall the hotel did what we wanted it to do!

I stay here one or two nights most weeks, as I find it the best hotel in the area when it comes to pet friendly and value for money. All the staff are welcoming, helpful and efficient. In particular, I’d like to mention Jeff Cave, Sally and Maria for always being so pleasant and helpful and making me and my Boxer dog, Sam, feel so at home. The rooms are spotless, spacious, tastefully decorated, and well-furnished and the beds are very comfortable. The heating is good and there are excellent blackout curtains with fixed outer edges to prevent light creeping in at the sides. The lounge areas and bar are cosy and relaxing and the leisure facilities are excellent. In addition, the gardens and grounds are lovely…. wonderful when you travel with your dog!

Family room I booked but got double room not nice I had to ask for extra bed ..tom was help full but not good why there double booked I don't know but hotel was ok and relaxing but was not happy about room

I used the Mercure as a base for a motorcycling holiday. I have stayed there before with my family. I am a coeliac so was very interested to see how the hotel fared in catering for my dietary needs. They did have gluten free bread for toast for breakfast, by no gluten free sausages. I are out mostly, but did eat in the brasserie restaurant one evening. Although there were some items marked as gluten free none appealed. Of the 3 options I asked about (burger, chicken tikka masala or rib eye steak) only the rib eye came close. I ended up with a meal consisting of steak, new potatoes and green vegetables with no gravy or sauce, so very dry and bland. Their was no point in trying to eat there on other nights as I had already had the only option.Very disappointing.

Good location near Hull. Warm welcome by reception team. rooms well equipped and clean and most of all soundproofed. Nice evening meal and breakfast. Leisure area adequate. Well priced 2 night stay Would recommend if travelling in the area. .

We enjoyed our stay very much the only downside was a wedding on the ground floor of the same wing as our room. It was a warm evening so the doors were open but the music was so loud ! For heaven's sake it was a wedding in a hotel not a night club ,no consideration was made for paying hotel guests. Spa was very enjoyable and the restaurant staff were very obliging even though extra busy with a coach party.

The hotel itself is nice. Rooms very clean. Breakfast was fine. Check in and out took a while. Pleasant bar area. The corridors, lift and staircases are very dated and must be due a refurbishment soon. My room 149 was on a corner and very nice. Very comfortable bed.

During a recent trip primarily to the UK, but with side excursions in Singapore, Dubrovnik and Bangkok, I took the opportunity to stay almost exclusively in Accor properties in a total of ten locations. From the experience of these seven weeks of travel, I can thoroughly recommend Accor and their multitude of brands as providing service well above what I expected and making me feel really special and individual. While I am an Accor Platinum Member and used to the extra little touches that are usually provided to me, I have to say that on this trip all the properties made extra effort which was most appreciated. Upgrades to my room type were invariably made available and the little treats left in the room were most appreciated. I particularly appreciated the efforts of a chef in baking a platter of ANZAC biscuits for me in-case I was feeling homesick. A great touch to make me feel special. I cannot speak more highly of the Accor brands and would thoroughly recommend them to any traveller.

Our room was in need of a makeover ( the wash hand basin was cracked) but was clean and the bed was very comfortable. Slept very well as it was extremely quiet. A lack of storage and hanging space would be an issue for more than a short stay. Staff at reception, restaurant and bar were helpful and friendly throughout our stay. Excellent pizza in the restaurant.

Stay with a 10 month baby

I stayed for two nights in a family room with my daughter and 10 month grandson. The room was immense and the beds very comfortable. It was remarkably quiet. My only niggle was the lack of a mirror in the bedroom. A mirror above the coffee console where you can dry your hair in comfort would have been useful. All the staff we came into contact with were very helpful and polite. Highly recommended.

Ruin birthday trip

It was a trip to celebrate my birthday. Arrive at the hotel about 10pm. The room is spacious however no wardrobe. So no place to put luggage and things. Just a tall mirror with space to hang coat behind it. Next morning come down for breakfast as we paid additional for breakfast. Very shock to see that apparently there are nothing and not up to standard at all. Plates and cups are dirty. The hot breakfast are not properly arrange and we afraid of the food get mixed up due to serving spoons are everywhere we end up not eating it. In fact I saw bacon on top of grilled tomato. For religious reason we have to avoid breakfast. Upset by the situation we decided to check out. I am really upset. My.birthday is ruin. The hotel overcharge because service is below the standard of price paid.

We stayed 6 nights in a privilege room which had separate sitting room. Warm clean comfy room. We had breakfast every morning in our room and it arrived piping hot and on time. Room always clean. Food in restaurant nice a few old favorites to choose from. One evening though a few things not available on the menu and no sparkling water available. Maybe this was because it was quiet being mid January. Would definitely stay here again.
