Booked 'Superior Suite' to celebrate an anniversary & reserved a table in the restaurant. We found the service was slow, unprofessional the restaurant was cold. Firstly, our waitress asked for drinks orders, without bringing the wine list. We enquired about the advertised 'chefs specials' to be told there were none. It was early evening there were few diners, but our food took around an hour to arrive, with later arrivals being served before us. We had to remind the waitress of the delay. My partners fish & chips eventually arrived, but was somewhat tasteless. I ordered Teriyaki, with the option of sea bass. What arrived was more Italian than Japanese, no udon noodles, but some kind of pasta (gnocci?) in a chili cheese sauce, with large chunks of fish. The sea bass however, was on top. This wasn't even on the menu. At first sight I considered sending it back, but whilst not what we ordered, it was delicious! Complaining would also have meant more delays! The desserts also took a long time to arrive & again, we had to remind our waitress. There was no hint of an apology for these issues, just a promise to sort it out. After dining, we enquired at reception re room service breakfast, to be told "It's continental" & to phone room service in the morning. Clearly, they didn't know what 'continental' meant as 'full English' was available. It took half an hour to arrive, almost cold, on cold plates, mine being minus the bacon. The only reason we didn't complain was that we were due to leave & another delay would have been unacceptable. This hotel needs to invest in staff training & live up to its star rating!

The staff really do enhance what you offer. Really helpful, polite and very kind staff. A credit to you from cleaning, reception and the bar/restaurant. That’s why I’ve said 5 out of 5. It is a nice hotel - paint work in corridors could be freshened up. I was in the family room on 2nd floor- nice size lovely beds and a kids playroom - how novel! The bathroom in the room ok but again - it needs modernising to a nice white suite. Otherwise a really good stay - thank you

Thank you for your review, I am delighted you had a good stay.

Great staff and a nice hotel if a little tired in places.

We drove from the Southwest of the UK to Hull for a family meeting and stayed at this hotel for the weekend. We were mistaken for members of an award event on arrival and directed to a car park at the back, but this didn’t make any real difference except the nearest entrance to the hotel didn’t have access to reception, so we walked back to the front of the hotel. The hotel itself is set at the end of a lane, although when exiting, the road marking appears to suggest that it is one way, which it isn’t (thankfully!). Shopping (Lidl, Waitrose) is nearby with a KFC within walking distance of the hotel and two petrol stations, which is handy, especially for refuelling for a return journey. The reception was spacious, and the staff were very pleasant and chatty (thank you). We were offered a free drink at the bar on signing up for the Accor loyalty scheme, which might be helpful to know. We stayed on the second floor and the room was clean and tidy, albeit rather cold initially. There are curtains on the windows but no nets, so the only privacy would be by closing the curtains and using the lights. Heating is by a wall-mounted convector heater, which causes the windows to have condensation inside the room in the morning. The bathroom is, in my opinion, both dated and tired. There is no shelving to put items onto, which was not expected. The sink was lower than expected, too. The bathroom mirror is heated, so be aware that if you leave the light on, the bathroom will warm up – a lot! Be aware that soundproofing appears to be an issue, as we could hear various conversations in other rooms as well as the sound of TV programs but not so much as to interrupt our sleep. Housekeeping does a fantastic job, especially bearing in mind that during our stay there were several birthday parties and an awards night in full swing, with lots of guests checking in and out across two days. The room was spotless, save for some expected wear and tear due to the bathroom being tired and there was a desk in the room with a small cabinet and table. Oddly enough, there is not a lot of storage and hanging space for clothes is very limited. Having an iron and ironing board in the room was a very nice extra (thank you), although a safe would have been nice, too. In my opinion, most guests now prefer King or Queen size beds as a treat whilst staying away and whilst we didn’t have an uninterrupted sleep on both nights, this may have been more to do with the reason why we were travelling up country than the size of the bed itself. The breakfast and breakfast staff were amongst the best we have experienced for a long time, and there must be a special shout-out for Nickie and Linda, who were very helpful, chatty and full of local information, which made a great start to the day. Breakfast is self-service, and the choice was as expected, with a mixture of cooked food and continental choices. If it’s an issue for you, be aware there is no scrambled egg or fried bread, but there are fried eggs and hash browns. We have come to expect sauces on tables, but that two sauce bottles were only provided in the self-service area was not a huge issue, but it was noticeable. We paid £176 for two nights, including breakfast (and free parking) via a third-party booking site, which seemed very reasonable to us given the cost of other nearby options. A pet hate of mine is having pay for overnight parking but that probably says more about me and it does influence my choice of hotels! We used the bar on both nights and were pleased that the prices were not inflated, which is something that usually stops us from using an on-site bar. The bar staff were very nice and chatty, the combination of which encouraged us to use the bar more than perhaps we otherwise would. We would have no issues recommending this hotel to anyone else and we would stay here again.

Thank you very much for your recommendation. It is really gratifying to read your review and understand how well the team looked after you

Dear Mar207, Thank you for taking the time to write a review about the hotel. While we can be found at the end of Willerby Retail Park, which features such shops as Waitrose, Poundland and a newly opend B and M as well as a McDonalds, these shops and their visitors rarely make any impact upon the hotel. If you had arrived at our other entrance you would of though we were set in a lovely village of Willerby. The bathrooms are showing there age, however, we are in the process of a refreshment programme as we look to keep the hotel looking as good as possible. KInd Regards Jeff
