A magical winter wedding

A very honest and balanced review We chose the Mercure Hull Grange Park Hotel for our wedding, and given the mixed nature of some reviews, I feel it’s only fair to provide a full and honest account of our experience. This would have been a 5-star review, but I have had to mark it down by one star. That said, I still highly recommend this venue, and we truly had a fabulous, magical wedding day that we will cherish forever. The negatives At the time of our wedding, the spirits selection was disappointing. There was no flavoured vodka available other than peach, and no Disaronno at all. My husband drinks spirits, and his choice was very limited. We also had upgraded starters (crayfish and prawn cocktail), however the crayfish was missing. Is this something worth complaining about? In our opinion, no. It didn’t bother us in the slightest, and none of our guests complained. Even if they had it was about me and Dan and we didn’t care, but no one did. However, I do recognise that this may matter to some couples, which is why I feel it’s fair to mention. The biggest issue we experienced was during the planning stage. We originally booked in September, but the wedding events planner we were working with was leaving. While we were informed of this, the transition to the new team was unfortunately very messy. Although a new manager took over, Natalie she is not suited to managing weddings. We decided to bring our wedding forward, and while the hotel itself was accommodating (even though this meant a cheaper package), Natalie was extremely difficult to deal with. Our winter wedding package included lights and drapes. Natalie insisted these could not go into the room we were allocated, was rude, passive-aggressive, suggested reverting us back to a festival package in May, and ultimately hung up the phone on me, leaving me in tears. I knew the drapes were suitable for the Garden Suite as this was our originally booked room, and we had paid extra for them. Natalie stated Food orders were initially to be sent by email, then shortly before the wedding we were told they had to be entered into an app. I outright refused due to the timing. Thankfully, (Lauren) who later took over our wedding, completely understood and did not expect this from us so close to the day. Natalie also never informed about a children’s menu, which would have been extremely helpful. We assumed children had to eat from the adult menu, only to find out very close to the wedding that a children’s menu did in fact exist. That, in honesty, is not acceptable. I was genuinely afraid to raise this with management at the time because I didn’t want our wedding to be affected. There were also multiple occasions where we were promised finalisation on certain dates that never materialised, causing a huge amount of unnecessary anxiety. The positives (and there are many) Aside from Natalie, the rest of the staff were utterly outstanding. Rachel picked up our wedding a couple of weeks beforehand. Her responses were timely, warm, and reassuring—nothing ever felt like too much trouble. She also arranged our meeting with the toastmaster. Lauren is exceptional. We met her a week before the wedding, and she reassured us that everything would fall into place and it did. She looked after me on the morning of the wedding when I was a nervous wreck, she remained patient even when timings shifted, and ensured the entire day ran like absolute clockwork. She also left a handwritten card and drinks in our room, which was such a thoughtful, personal touch. Spencer took over later in the day and honestly brought the most incredible energy. He came to meet us the night before, fitted into our wedding seamlessly, and on the day itself joined in with such warmth and joy. He understood our vibe completely. I choose to Let staff join in with our selfie mirror and QR codes only added to our memories and Spencer and Tom being part of that is something I will always treasure. Staff are part of the day, and we loved that they felt included. Spencer’s enthusiasm for weddings genuinely shines. He brought fun, laughter, and an energy that lifted the entire evening. He is a huge credit to the hotel and, in my opinion, deserves recognition and promotion. I’m been serious the guy is amazing we all loved him that’s every member of the wedding party. He is a Mercure legend! Tom was also wonderful, and bonding over rock music with us was such a lovely, touch the night before our big day! We stayed at the hotel for two nights before the wedding so we could relax and spend time with guests. From Thursday to Sunday, every single staff member went above and beyond. They knew who we was and treated us like royalty. On the morning of the wedding, staff were running coffees, helping with errands, and doing so happily and without complaint. The food was fantastic, the evening buffet was delicious, the atmosphere was incredible, and everything ran perfectly on the day. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and we had no complaints at all. The hotel was also accommodating when sorting out room costs on the Sunday—even with my questionable communication skills 😂. Final thoughts Did we have the best wedding? Absolutely yes. Despite a stressful lead-up, our wedding day itself was picture-perfect. Many of our guests have said it was the best wedding they’ve ever attended, and I am still firmly in my wedding bubble. Thank you to Rachel, Lauren, Spencer, and Tom you are an absolute credit to the Mercure Hull, and it is because of you that any issues were corrected and our day was as magical as it was. Breakfast was absolutely amazing, from start to finish. The food was fresh, full of flavour, and clearly prepared with care. Every bite showed the quality and attention that went into it, making it a really enjoyable experience. The service was just as impressive friendly, welcoming, and attentive without being overbearing. Linda truly made sure everything was perfect, checking in at the right moments and ensuring nothing was missed. Her warm attitude and professionalism made the whole visit even better. It’s clear pride is taken in both the food and the customer experience. I’ll definitely be coming back and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great breakfast. 👌🏾

My wife and myself attended their New Years Eve debacle. I have emailed bot a CEO and the General Manager, not even the common courtesy of an acknowledgement.

Dear Mike I was concerned to receive your review as it misrepresents what was a hugely enjoyable evening for the other 250 guest who celebrated New Years with us, many who have rebooked for 2026. You are frustrated that I did not email you back in a timely way but posted this review only five hours after you had emailed me. We are not perfect but as a team try really hard in our aim that all guest leave 100% satisfied and it is disappointing that you and your wife were not satisfied with our many efforts to satisfy on the 31st. Mi estadía fue a finales de septiembre, en general el personal es muy atento, las habitaciones limpias pero la calefacción del cuarto no funcionaba bien, además una de las ventanas del baño no se podía cerrar. Levantarse al baño en la noche era pasar un momento incomodo por el frío. Las habitaciones tienen lo básico. El bufete supero las expectativas y aunque no varía día a día, tiene todo los elementos para armar el clásico y delicioso desayuno inglés. También cuenta con alimentos para veganos. No es un hotel lujoso, pero la calidez del personal, comodidad de las camas y la higiene del lugar te hacen pasar una buena estancia. Está muy cerca de varios restaurantes y supermercados, esta bien ubicado. El jardín es precioso.
