Resort is in dire need of renovation/maintenance. Lifts, rooms, bathrooms, balconies all dirty and substandard condition. Reception informed me that the site became a hotel in 1989. It is clear nothing has been renovated since. Very disappointed.

Disappointing Fairmont experience

We have stayed in many Fairmont properties around the world and have always expected a high level of quality from them. Sadly, this property was anything but. The decor was tired and old, the staff well the ones you could find couldn't be bothered helping. The bar staff couldn't figure out what was a beer or a cider. The meal in the the ONLY restaurant that was open took 1.5 hrs. to come and then they put the wrong tables bill onto our room account. The hotel shop and whiskey bar were all closed and only open on the weekends. If you also staying here to be able to see the Blue Mountains from your room, best you ask before arriving as there are only a very small number of rooms that actually have a view. For the cost per night, I would save your money and go anywhere but here.

Great hotel but in serious need of an update

We went there as a family and booked the Sublime suite. For the price we paid, I was expecting more. The room was big but, not as clean as it could be. The balconies were filthy with calcium built up and stains on all the windows. The carpets in the room looked dirty and the room itself was very dusty. The bathrooms were ok but needed more cleaning. The mini bar was non existent, unless you count the sad little bottle of milk. The first night we went down for dinner at around 7:30pm to discover only the only food available was bar food - about 6 food items on the menu. The italian place was closed and the Embers was fully booked. As a family we ordered what we could off the bar menu and the quality was average. Having stayed in a lot hotels around the world, this was certainly a first to not be able to order 'normal' food at 7:30pm, in a high end hotel. After this experience, we decided to go have dinner out for the rest of our stay. Katoomba has lots of great options. The pool areas could seriously do with a coat of paint, some mopping,and a good old general clean and tidy up. I swam in the indoor pool and unfortunately the local pool of my suburb felt cleaner than this pool. The outside pool is dated, and again in need of some maintenance. The garden area was beautiful but could do with some TLC. Weeds everywhere, unswept surfaces, broken chess pieces tied with zip ties etc etc Overall, the hotel has great bones and great potential. Unfortunately it seems like the Accor group is relying more on the reputation the Fairmount once had and make money off that reputation, rather than spending money to maintain the reputation. Its such a shame that such a beautiful place is being left up rot.

Although staff were very friendly, attentive and helpful, the room was average and not what you'd expect from a "resort". Soundproofing was the main problem. We were able to hear every word spoken from the room next door and people in the corridor outside the room. There were a lot of hyperactive children with irresponsible parents. The view from the window was of one bush and a wall. We were told the EV charger would be working but it was out of order and Exploren said they had reported it to the two months prior. They were waiting for the resort to get it back online. The bar fridge contained one tiny long life milk and nothing else. No snack or drink options to purchase, no cold glasses, just that lonely, little milk. On the positive side, the bed and pillows were very comfortable.

A Luxury Brand in a Family Resort Costume

We booked the Fairmont Leura for our anniversary expecting the usual Fairmont experience: peaceful, refined, and vaguely life-enhancing. Instead, we checked into what felt like a very beautiful (albeit run down) building hosting a very popular children’s energy convention. The hotel looks stunning — both in person and online. The marketing paints a picture of soft lighting, mountain mist, and slow romantic weekends. The reality is a whole lot more… dynamic. To be clear, if you have kids, this place is probably heaven and I have no doubt you'll have the best time as there are a number of distractions for kids Slides. Activities. Pools. Happy chaos. It’s basically Haribo in architectural form. If you don’t have kids and were hoping for a quiet, romantic escape… it’s less “luxury mountain retreat” and more “premium school holiday headquarters.” The Two Doctors Whiskey Tavern also deserves an honourable mention (or gentle ribbing). With its awards and name, we were expecting a cosy, atmospheric whiskey bar. Instead, it felt more like a function room that had accidentally ordered a very good drinks menu. I can completely see why it would work for large groups or events — just not quite the intimate whiskey experience we were picturing. Service was… fine. Nobody was rude, it just felt a bit like everyone was on shift rather than into it. We mentioned it was our anniversary and were reminded kindly that everyone is celebrating something. Which is true… we’re all heroes in our own way but isn't the epitome of customer service to not remind you? The real mismatch here is expectation versus experience This is clearly a strong family resort. It just doesn’t quite deliver on the luxury, romantic Fairmont promise suggested by the branding and photos. At $400+ per night, you expect a little more magic and a little less playground ambience. This was more... Holiday Inn than Fairmont Would I recommend it? For families: absolutely. For couples seeking tranquillity: only if your relationship thrives under mild duress and hallway hide-and-seek tournaments.
