Great location but poor hotel

A shame that a fantastic location for what could be a great hotel is spoilt by the staff and the rules of the hotel. Checking in is a nightmare and I went to 4 different areas just to book a table for dinner with them asking for details I had already given to reception!! But worst of all is that this hotel shuts at 9pm. No bar and staff come round half way through dinner to ask you if you're having pudding and what would you want to order.

Large Hotel in the Blue Mountains

The Fairmont is a large hotel. Even walking to your room seems to take a long time. The restaurant was fabulous. The cafe served good food and drinks. The pools were well maintained. Our suite was lovely. I can see that the resort is ideal for families with young children. Due to the size of the hotel maintenance is little behind. This is not a Fairmont that you would find in Canada.

My wife and I had the pleasure of spending 2 days at this resort for the first time. Having read the mixed reviews we had mixed expectations. Our expectations were exceeded beyond measure. We had a wonderful time experiencing both the natural setting of the hotel, and the hotel itself. Yes, the resort is large and can get busy. Yes the hotel is not the Ritz in Paris and thank goodness for that. What it does have is old world charm, an ambience that reminds you of a time when life was easy and simple, and a natural setting that soothes the spirit. There are many natural trails to explore and enjoy the beautiful mountain views. The rooms are large and clean. The breakfast food is plentiful and of good quality. The breakfast room enjoys a magical view of the valley and distant mountain range. All the staff are friendly and welcoming. We mention 2 members of staff who looked after us in the restaurant like we were old friends. Thank you Dashiell and Diana. We looking forward to join you again. In brief, if you're looking for a modern city hotel this place is not designed for you, but if you want to relax in a natural setting away from the hustle and bustle, and if you want to rejuvenate both your body and your spirit, this is definitely the place to visit. Very old fashioned hotel. The room wasn’t clean very well. Still popcorn on the floor and the bathroom was not that we expected. We kindly asked the receptionist for a minimum cleaning but nobody came. The pool also looked very old and needed some work. The food was correct with a stunning view. We had a good time on the golf course. This hotel needs to be renovated.

We recently stayed at the Fairmont during the school holidays as a couple. We were looking forward to an upmarket escape but found that the resort was heavily focused on families and children. From breakfast to the pools, game rooms, and other amenities, the atmosphere was very child-centric, which wasn’t quite what we had expected for a couple's getaway. On a positive note, the view from our room was spectacular—it truly is all about the view. However, the brightly coloured children’s rainbow slide created a visual blemish to this beautiful outlook. I also feel that the property and our room were showing signs of age and felt dated. Our room was also located next to the lift, and due to poor door insulation, we experienced noise from other guests. This impacted our overall comfort and sense of privacy, although it was still a nice stay.
