This is the first time I've ever felt compelled to take the time to write a negative review about anything, so it says a lot about how poor this experience was. Arrived at the hotel given a Junior Suite. It never registered with me immediately, but the room didn't look the same as the one I had booked in the photo. Went down in the evening to query, and was told this was the correct room. It wasn't, I should have been given a superior suite, which is much larger. Other issues, I forgot my travel adapter (my fault), but though, it will be OK as most modern hotels have USB connectors anyway. Not this one. Went down to reception to see if I could borrow one, only to be told "no, because people keep stealing them". Then I was directed to an empty shelf in the small shop in the hotel, opposite the reception where they had sold out of travel adapters. As the hotel is located in a business area, there was no shops near, there was so no way to plug in any electronics. We ate in the hotel restaurant that evening. Despite it being well staffed in terms of numbers, we waited 20 minutes before someone took our order. This hotel seems to have an issue with giving out tap water to drink, even though we had also bought drinks with the meal. I've never had this issue anywhere else in the world. We were told that we could get tap water, but it's not normally provided, then when we got the bill, found we had been charged for it! That night it was moderately windy, but the room we had was very noisy due to the cladding that surrounds the hotel and the fact it was on the end. Mentioned this in the morning to the receptionist in the morning to see if we could change room, and she just laughed! Went to breakfast, only to be greeted by someone that clearly didn't want to be there! When I got home I emailed the Accor Customer service team. The next day, they just gave a fairly non-interested response saying it would be passed to the hotel and they would contact me directly. A few days passed, no response, contacted Accor customer service again, to be told pretty much the same thing again. Exactly one week has passed at the writing of this review and nobody at Accor, Novotel, or the hotel has replied to my complaint.

A great hotel for longer stays in the Amsterdam and Randstad areas, not just Schipol.

The Novotel in Hoofddorp is a good airport hotel, in particular for frequent travelers to Amsterdam and/or if you are looking to stay at a decent hotel for a longer period of time (more than 4 days). While it is not in the airport grounds (like the Sheraton or Hilton), it is just a 5 minute train ride away from Schipol. In addition, if you want to get to downtown Amsterdam, it is only about a 20 min train ride away. If you are an American traveling from the East Coast like Washington, ATL, NYC, etc.), you are usually arriving at Schipol at 7 am or so local time after a red eye. If you need to nap a little, it is imperative that you get to an airport hotel that’s close by. Also, it needs to be big enough so you don’t have to be a zombie until 3 or 4 pm local time (or 9-10 am Eastern) My room was in the top levels of the hotel thanks to my Gold status with Accor (which shouldn’t be too hard to get as an American if you stay in Fairmonts/Sofitels semi regularly stateside AND have the Voyageur card). The room was quiet and the sleep was comfortable. I even extended my stay one day toward the end because I had my sleep interrupted one day due to a convention, but that isn’t the hotel’s fault. Breakfast was decent each morning, but make sure that you get it before closing time. The staff will start to close shop at 10 or 11 depending on the day of week. If you are American and aren’t familiar with Novotel as a brand, it’s like the Hilton or Marriott in the USA. Hiltons and Marriotts in Europe are often a bit more upscale than stateside. Finally, given that I stayed during peak summer vacation time (the Paris Olympics didn’t help either), staying at the Novotel in Hoofddorp instead of downtown Amsterdam saved me a lot of money (I also spent time in Brussels but went to another hotel then). Train tickets aren’t that expensive to downtown. Even if your hotel is in the middle of everything, it’s still going to take you 20 min to get to places. Again, this is a good hotel to stay at, especially for longer vacations and for frequent travelers.

Loved this hotel ! Great food in the restaurant and super friendly staff - room was very comfortable and the soundproofing g was excellent. Loved that they have bees on the roof too. Would most definitely recommend! A 2 minute walk from Hoopddorf station - tip is to scan your bank card for a single trip to the centre of Amsterdam for a 6Euro ticket rather than buy a travel pass. 15/20 min train ride.

Simple but good stay, good upgrade to junior suite and great welcome drinks. Is close to airport so has breakfast at the lounge. Price wise good price and nice location easy access to airport and city. Quick check in and out. Good service with nice lobby bar.

Overall, a good enough stay. The hotel is conveniently located within 3 minutes walking distance from the Hoofddorp main train station. Soundproofing to the outside (windows) seems ok, to the inside it (next door rooms) could be improved. Overall an acceptable but not spectacular stay: check in was fine, but dinner the same evening in the hotel restaurant farcical: - restaurant staff that wanted to take my order was too engrossed by her ordering iPad, that she couldn't even greet me - not even a smile on her face - She asked if I was ready to order, which I was and I mentioned my order. She then bluntly interrupted me to ask for my room number first. Ask for it first if you need that then! - I was still eating, when the restaurant staff wanted to take my food away - I had put my cutlery on my plate crossed - in any halfway decent F&B outlet this is the signal one is not finished eating - and in case of unclarity, she could have asked rather than just take the food away? - After I was done, I was enjoying my beverage a bit more and a new plate of food showed up - exactly the same order apart that I hadn't ordered it, so someone had noted my order twice - When I then was ready to leave, it took ages to get anyone's attention - all staff seemed to be too busy walking around looking at their phones. I literally had to raise my voice to get someone's attention. As an ALL gold member, not all benefits were recognised: there was no welcome amenity. Also, the fast checkout was ok, but it took the hotel nearly a week and 2 reminders (which weren't even acknowledged) to send over the invoice - this should be done automatically within hours of leaving, not a week later. So sleeping/resting wise a decent hotel, but service seems all a bit disinterested and needs attention from the GM.
