I have stayed at the hotel IBIS Styles several times in recent years,whilst visiting my daughter in Geneva. I have always been very pleased with the service & cleanliness. This time, I booked through Booking.com. Before my stay I realised I had booked one room & breakfast, but it said for 2 guests. So I contacted the hotel to say there was an error & I was travelling alone. They said I should let Booking .com know to change the reservation. This I did, Booking.com said it would not be changed until it was approved by the hotel, but they had informed the hotel of the error. I arrived for my stay, they still charged for two people (city tax & breakfasts), despite me travelling alone & they did not correct it. I think this is shabby treatment, from both Booking.com & IBIS Styles. It definitely changes one’s impressions of an organisation.😔

Hopefully I will be able then identify what happened and why. Your review does underline something unfortunate. The hospitality business is no exception in a new day and age of online merchant superpowers. An online travel agent like booking.com will require considerable commission for a few clics and our commission is a percentage of revenue created. If we simply collect less money we will be in fact increasing our commission percentage. This is why in most cases we request for the guest to modify the booking on booking.com; the effect will be that the commissionable amount will decrease and so the commission percentage will be as it must be. Once again this explanation is not full proof; there are plenty of situations in which we are able to find win win solutions; hence my request for an email. Not the first time I stayed at Ibis Styles Geneve Carouge. Good service, nice staff and pretty close to the center. It has become like my home whenever I have to go to Geneva.

The hotel is new, large rooms, clean and good airconditioning, spacious clean bathroom with hot and cold water. Rooms are cleaned well. Tram Station Carouge Rondeau is 50 meters in front of hotel where Tram 18 goes directly to Gare Cornavin and Downtown Shopping Center (Station Bel Air) and Lake Geneva and at 200 meter walking Bus 23 goes to Nations and Palais des Nations and WHO and ILO. Breakfast is good with breads, vroissants, cake, butter, cheese, eggs, fruits, yohhurt, sausages etc fresh fruit juice and coffee. There is a good Kebab shop and a small shop at other side of the road. Cointrin Airport is appr. 15 minutes from Hotel. Check in is easy and sometimes before 1500 pm. Personell is friendly. Iron is available at the ñobby for free. Hotel is thematic dedicated to historic cartoonist of the region The rooms could use a safe and water cooker.

We stayed at this Ibis Styles recently and here is a summary of various aspects from our experience: Prior to our stay = the hotel emailed travel passes the day before, which gave us free travel on all public transport in Geneva. It seems a lot of hotels there provide this. It was very useful, convenient, included our travel from the airport to the hotel, and saved us some money during our trip. Check-in = friendly welcome from staff, they spoke fluent English and French, we were able to check in early (however being charged 30 CHF to do this was expensive). Positives of the room = spacious & clean, modern, nice window seat, bed was comfortable, free WiFi included was efficient, good housekeeping services, we slept well and weren’t disturbed by noises so that suggests the soundproofing was good quality. Negatives of the room = the air conditioning didn’t work well or cool the room. Spoke to reception about the issue and they explained the rooms don’t have proper air conditioning because of the way they were made (on Ibis website the rooms are listed as having air conditioning, so I find this description misleading). The staff were apologetic, helpful and were able to provide a fan, which was definitely needed throughout our stay due to the hot weather! Without a fan, the temperature in the room would not have been bearable in summer as the thermostats can only be turned down by a limited number of degrees and the temperature of ours would not go below 23 degrees during our stay. We noticed that other guests had also been provided with fans by the hotel. I was disappointed that there was no mini fridge in the room - this is something which I would have expected in an Ibis Styles room due to the upgraded facilities/increased prices. Despite the room being large, there was a lack of storage space/hanging space for clothes and not enough hangers. Only one spare pillow provided when the room was booked for two guests. We were provided with one complimentary bottle of water in the room when we checked in - again, not sure why they didn’t provide two bottles, to make it one per guest. This was not replenished during our stay. Miscellaneous request = at the time of booking, we added a note to explain it would be our wedding anniversary during our stay and asked if the hotel could do anything simple to make this occasion even more special. We had no response. When we contacted them a few days before, enquiring about the travel passes we had read about online, we also asked again if the hotel could do anything for our anniversary - we would have only been expecting a small gesture such as folding the towels into nice shapes or putting a chocolate on the pillow for example. We weren’t expecting anything for free and would have paid in order for something special to be done. However the subject was ignored by the hotel for a second time and nothing was done in the room for our anniversary. If this is something which the hotel can’t accommodate, we would have understood, but would have expected them to have the courtesy to respond to our request either way. Location = peaceful location in Carouge, out of the city centre. The area felt safe at all times. Very convenient for public transport links as the tram stops were literally right outside the hotel, all you need to do is cross the road. Breakfast = was included within the room rate. It was buffet-style so you helped yourself. Pastries, pancakes and omelettes were our favourites. The food was plentiful and varied, but we would have liked a few different options to suit us better e.g. more vegetarian cheese (Gruyère is not and we don’t eat Brie), pretzels, some cooked potatoes or mushrooms etc. The breakfast room was very warm and stuffy with no air coming in, which was uncomfortable when trying to eat. Other food = we ate an evening meal at the hotel one night. The menus are displayed in the lifts so you can have a look at options in advance. There were several vegetarian choices. The food we had was nice. The service was a bit hit & miss and it seemed like other customers were given more attention from the staff while we felt overlooked. Check-out = this was smooth and efficient. We were able to leave our luggage at the hotel and collect it later the same day which was positive. On balance, I would award a rating of 3.5 out of 5 (but don’t have that option with Tripadvisor). We would probably stay at this hotel again if in Geneva, but would plan to come at a cooler time of year so the lack of air conditioning wouldn’t be an issue. I remain disappointed that the hotel didn’t acknowledge our anniversary or request.
