Upon approaching the hotel, the exterior was impressive. The reception provided a warm greeting and ample information. Our room was located through the hotel, down some steps, and at the end of an outdoor courtyard. Fortunately, it wasn't raining. We had reserved a table for 8:30 PM, but reconsidered after noticing the bar prices: £6.40 for a pint of standard lager. The room was basic, with only one set of towels for two guests—a common practice in many hotels. However, my wife found nail varnish on her pillowcase, and the room featured an unsightly portable oil heater. There was no hot water from the sink's hot tap when arrived, and the second shower head bracket was barely hanging on the wall. The heated towel rack was positioned too close to the toilet, leaving little room and posing a burn risk. The shower itself had such poor water pressure that it was barely functional all weekend. Bed was comfortable. While breakfast was enjoyable, the waiting staff on Saturday morning seemed lethargic and at one point were stood staring at us while we ate. They also cleared only half of the plates, leaving the rest on our table. Sunday’s service was an improvement. This hotel isn’t a patch on the Mercure we’ve stayed at in Bridgwater. I wouldn’t make the effort to stay here again unless it improves. Overall, a 3-star experience at best.

I was part of the production team for "The Greatest Days," filmed in Clitheroe a couple of years ago. Our crew, including myself, stayed at Mercure Blackburn Dunkenhalgh Hotel & Spa. During this time, delays caused by cast members resulted in two unfair PCNs being issued to me. I promptly contacted the hotel to request cancellation and was assured by the hotel team that the PCNs were cancelled. However, I recently received two letters from DCB Legal demanding £452.28 for these PCNs. Mercure Hotel is responsible for ensuring the cancellations were processed. If not, they should have informed me so I could take necessary actions. This mishandling has caused undue stress and financial burden. I have been communicating with the hotel management since March 2024, but they have been unhelpful, ignoring my emails and avoiding my calls. This level of incompetence and unprofessionalism in basic customer care is unacceptable. Avoid this hotel at all costs.

The NIGHTMARE all started the moment we arrived at the hotel at 02:00am and found NOBODY at reception. There is no security neither. It was spooky, and feared the ghost of Roger de Dunkenhalgh would come out of the shadows to give us the fright of our lives!! To our surprise, we saw a sign saying that we have to pick up the reception phone ourselves and call a number for the receptionist to come. After calling at least 5 times, we waited for around 10 minutes and he finally showed up. My key card didn't work, and he changed it for me. This was only the start of the nightmare. 1) My room was upstairs and since there is no lift (!) I had to carry two 20kg luggages up the stairs by myself. Even the ground floor has a few steps, which made it inconvenient for my parents. The stairs are narrow and the thread is short. The hotel is not fit for elderly people. 2) I found condom wrappers and a thick layer of dust ontop of my wardrobe! SEE PHOTOS. I didn't complain, because if a cleaner came to clean it, the dust would have been brushed off, only to end up on my bed! I didn't trust the cleaners one bit, after seeing the condition of our room. 3) My parents had no hot water in the bathroom. In our bathroom, we were lucky enough to have hot water, however there was still an issue. From the tap, the hot water and cold water flows out separately, so as you wash your hands, you burn your hands and freeze your hands at the same time. It felt like a torture method from the Tudor times. There was also no pressure of the water. 4) When my parents complained about their bathroom, a rude receptionist named Amy showed us another alternative room. The moment my mother entered the bathroom and opened the tap to check if there is hot water, Amy went into a mad fit, telling us that now my mother has to accept this alternative room, because my mother 'dirtied' the room. To our surprise, the sink was blocked! Amy still made us keep the room! SHAME on her!!! We didn't wish to argue not to spoil the holiday, so we gave in to Amy's mad fit. Her crazy eyes made it all worse. She said she would send someone to unblock the sink, but throughout the stay it was NEVER fixed!!!! Amy then said we have to pay immediately. When my father paid by card, he moved the card machine to the side for her to see the screen of the machine. Amy then grabbed it savagely and slammed it on the reception to re-position it the way SHE wanted it. I found this disturbing. She has alot of anger inside her. Amy clearly hates guests, and should opt for a career change. FURTHERMORE, there was STILL a problem with the temperature of the water, despite changing room !! 5) There was NO TELEPHONE in my parent's room, that made it impossible to get through to reception to ask for anything. Amy said that the phones don't work anyway, and adivsed us to send a whatsapp message whenever we need anything . To this day, the messages I sent weren't even read!!! The bathroom window was BROKEN, and it was never fixed throughout the stay, despite countless complaints. 6) I found Chewing-gum outside our bedroom window, an old chipped toilet seat, and cracked bath panels. See photos. 7) The hotel is run down - the rooms and common areas need a refurbishment urgently. 8) No refrigerator / minibar in the room to store medicine. After being promised many times, this was not made available. 9) Poor breakfast selection. This hotel is NOT a 4 star hotel. STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL ! THIS HOTEL RUINED MY HOLIDAY !!

Had a very enjoyable one night stay with my wife. Location is very good with some nice grounds. We used the gym and spa which were very good. Had a three course evening meal and full breakfast and even though we arrived at 9.30 plenty of food available and very tasty but the superb staff made our stay.

Splendid hotel. Large executive room with great shower. Bed and pillows very comfortable. Easy parking ( make sure you enter car number as soon as you arrive). Free bottle of wine on arrival and free soft drinks in fridge. Dinner menu a bit limited but tasty. Hotel staff were the best with a friendly and warm welcome at reception when we arrived. Mal in the bar was exceptional, he was very thoughtful and kind, even sorting out food for us before official serving time as we had to get to Blackburn hospital for visiting time. We really appreciated his efforts. The rooms were super clean, a credit to the lovely Alice in domestic services. Would very happily stay again.
