Good hotel with great location and great staff.

We have been staying here since 2016, several times per year except during COVID ; so we must like it. The location is great . It is a short walk into Bristol City centre ; it is a very short distance from Temple Meads railway station and the nearby buses including the Flyer bus from the airport (it is useful to download the First Bus app which shows the bus routes although I would not trust it for buying tickets). The hotel does not have its own car park, but the Gardener Haskins car park is just nearby at £24 per 24 hours. The rooms are a standard Ibis room, ie fine. They all seem to have USB charrging ports on some of the electric sockets, which is very helpful. We have enjoyed the extensive breakfast. There is a good selection of wines. The staff are great – if there is a problem, it is quickly and satisfactorily resolved. It is worth getting the loyalty card which is free and does confer useful benefits if one stays at an Accor hotel enough (Ibis, Mercure, Novotel and others) We would have no hesitation in staying again, and indeed are already plotting our next stay

Damp, cold and old room.

So we arrived at 7:30pm and were given our room and as we walked in it was damp and cold. It was nothing like the picture of what I’d booked- I’d booked a modern twin with accessibility. This was old. We spoke to reception who were polite and said could bring us a heater but the air was thick. I suffer with asthma and within being in the room for 15 minutes I was already struggling, (I’ve never found anything like this before). Lucy at reception was a babe and came up to see if the aircon would help- it was broken and could only pump cold air she seemed shocked by this and tried to move us but all the rooms were dirty and she took us to one she’d clean but did warn us it smelt very strongly. So we agreed when we walk in and this would’ve also not helped my asthma any more as it was heavily perfumed. We ended up leaving because there wasn’t a room suitable for us. So we drove around Bristol late at night to try and get a room. Was a bit of a mare. But I wouldn’t recommend this hotel for anything but Lucy. She was sooo nice and tried but the hotel is in dire need of repair, the room I booked was meant to be a refurbished one like the picture but we turned up and it wasn’t- I felt super let down and it added so much stress to what was meant to be a treat.

Basic and dated rooms and facilities

My husband and I booked to stay here as we were visiting nearby family and it was a good location. Just to make people aware, there is a lot of building work going on in close proximity to the area that the hotel is in, which we didn’t know when we booked. On arrival reception was well lit and modern but I did notice the edges of the reception desk were all worn away. We were welcomed by a friendly member of staff who checked us in and gave us our room card. On entering the room it was very spacious but I noticed straight away that the wall finishings were very dated. Also there were no sockets either side of the bed. I went to sit on the bed and it was so solid that there was no movement whatsoever. After looking at the bed, it was a very dated and basic frame where one of the legs wasn’t fully on the floor topped with some sort of solid foam layer wrapped in fabric, so not even a proper mattress. Also there were only 2 thin pillows on the bed and a spare on the side unit which felt very basic. The bathroom was essentially a small plastic type raised unit that had been fitted in the room which contained the sink, loo and shower. Had everything you needed including soap, shower gel and shampoo/conditioner. (If someone had accessibility issues then this would not be suitable as you had to step up into it). Shower pressure could have been a bit stronger but wasn’t too bad. Towels were provided, however again were just very basic. On first inspection everything felt clean when we arrived in the evening, however when light in the morning we noticed that the sideboards, chair, plastic skirting boards were all chipped, scraped or had chunks missing out of them. In the bathroom there were lots of orange rusty areas on the metal rails etc and on the mirror light fittings just a build up of gunk over the years. Also quite a few little hairs stuck to the plastic interior of the bathroom unit. Our night sleep was very poor as we were both very uncomfortable, due to lack of movement or any sort of comfort. There was a large rip in the duvet cover on my side and a hole in the sheet on my partners side. Also we were woken many times due to what sounded like building work outside, and sounds from other rooms (floors are not carpeted so no sound absorption). I went to do my makeup in the natural light at the desk by the window, however there was no mirror on the wall in front of the chair. Only a tall mirror by the door or the one in the bathroom. To sum up our stay we felt disappointed that we’d paid £100 not including breakfast, for 1 night, for a very basic dated room, very uncomfortable bed and basic towels and bedding. We were also sent a review email direct from ibis which we spent 10 mins filling out only to find it wouldn’t submit when we got to the end. Wouldn’t stay again or recommend to anyone which is a shame as the location is good.

Great location is very close to the railway station. Reception people are very friendly and fast check-in. Spacious room, clean and cozy. Breakfast area is nice, also lobby is of modern design. Center of town is not too far, a walking distance of 15 minutes.

Rather pointless

A non-descript hotel in a non-descript part of the city centre. The rooms clearly had better days. I though it was quite clean until I saw a slater running across the desk. Avoid if you can.
