We had a good stay at the Novotel- Bristol. We booked a family room, the bed was comfortable and sofa bed was fine for the children. Rooms were clean, there was a tv, a blu tooth speaker, kettle, tea, coffee etc and there was an adjustable thermostat so air room temp was comfortable. Bathroom was a little tired, but clean and fit for purpose. There were shower gel, shampoo, and soap bars provided. A shower cap was provided when requested. Breakfast was lovely, there were fried eggs, English breakfast, pastries, vegan options, soya milk and a wide selection of cold foods also available and lots of food available. You can request other egg options and tea. On our last morning we arrived a little later and some of the breakfast items were running low. The waiter was very helpful, he had items made on request and brought out to us. There is paid car parking available in the basement, which is convenient. We walked into Cabot circus during the day, the reception staff gave us directions which was very easy and it took 10-15 mins. Not sure why but our card was not preauthorised this time for purchases. Maybe you have to request it? I so I was a but surprised that I had to pull out a credit card to pay for room service instead of adding it to our room bill. It wasn’t a problem, but I am used to adding any extras to our hotel bill. Overall we had a lovely stay, all the staff were pleasant, helpful, polite and accommodating,

Location is good for travelling by train, service is professional and helpful, room is of a standard nature and clean, breakfast is a good range of food and drinks. Have stayed before and would stay again.

good breakfast, enough choice. multiple breads, juices, fruits and English breakfast as well. decent rooms and they were cleaned every day good location close by the station (approx 5 minutes walk) and the city centre is a 10 min walk. bus stops close by the hotel.

We have stayed before several times. Parking cheaply onsite is a real bonus. The breakfasts are great but the public areas of the hotel are looking very tired. There was noise from other guests and the never ending Temple Meads engineering works outside, which make it visually unappealing. The hotel needs upgrading and the carpets in corridors cleaned but would we stay again .... yes because of breakfasts, parking and convenience but only if rooms are discounted.

The bed was very comfortable and spacious. The welcome on our arrival was warm and efficient. Staff were always courteous, professional and helpful. Very interesting wine list in the bar, with lots of good choices by the glass.

Stayed here for a reunion taking place in Bristol. Conveniently located to the train station and city centre. All staff were happy, helpful and friendly which makes a hotel these days. Rooms basic but had all we needed

Good hotel in central location

This is a comfortable hotel, in a very good location for visiting Bristol. Close to Temple Meads station and the riverfront area. Underground car park is £10 per 24hrs. Very comfortable bed. Excellent breakfast buffet. Staff were very pleasant. The décor is slightly bland - a few splashes of bright colour would lift things. 'Artworks' in bedrooms are appalling, but that's not the main issue in a hotel!

Simply handed my room key with no explanation of breakfast etc. Bar experience was great however breakfast staff lacked attentiveness - no one check off my room number and I was also surprised to see no scrabbles egg as an option. I have given an average rating to allow for the quality of the bedroom however roadworks outside the bedroom most of the night spoilt any opportunity of a decent nights sleep. Overall well below par experience given I use many Novotel’s across the UK.

Sorry to learn that you were disappointing with your stay on this occasion in particular, due to the city centre roadworks which have been ever changing and ongoing for a number of years, please accept my sincere apologies. I will certainly discuss your feedback with my team and take the necessary measures to address your concerns to prevent future occurrence. Regarding the city centre roadworks to manage the traffic flow more efficiently, although they have well ran over their completion date, the city council have informed us that they will be completed by Autumn 2019 and the whole area will be much improved to the eye. Comfortable room with comfortable large sofa. The breakfast was good and good value. The lighting in the room (and the hotel in general) was rather gloomy. We would have preferred a shower rather than a bath/shower.

Inadequate ventilation and no extractor fan in bathroom, after showering the bathroom and everyting in it is dripping with moisture. Some attention to this problem would improve the quality of guests stay at this good city centre hotel. We stayed 3 nights and on returning to our room on the last night after being out all day, my used towels were still lying on top of the bed. I went down to reception and they quickly replaced them.

Stayed for one night. The hotel is well located, very close to Temple Meads Station and a short walk to shops and restaurants. The room was comfortable although there was road noise. Staff were extremely helpful.

Improvement Needed

Major building work being carried out during our 7 night stay of which we weren’t warned about. Resulted in scaffolding blocking the windows & loud banging waking us up every morning. Receptionist wouldn’t let me collect our 3 x room keys without proof of payment despite them originally being booked & paid for by me... however one of my guests were able to take all 3 key cards without even being challenged upon arrival. Queues at reception for activating car park vouchers were also very long.

I can confirm that we have been working closely with both city council (regarding the roadworks) and contractors to ensure minimum disturbance to our guests especially during the morning and it is agreed that no work should commence prior to 09:00 hours. Please be assured that the team are available 24/7 and I am sure had you alerted us at the time then we would have done our utmost to ensure service recovery. Regarding your arrival, it is our company policy to request the credit card used for payment upon arrival to protect both guest and company against credit card fraud and I am sorry that you felt this was an inconvenience at the time. Good hotel but disappointing

Having stayed at the hotel before several times and always having a good experience I booked this hotel for my girlfriends birthday in the knowledge it would be a pleasant experience. Booked the 3 course meal, which was really good. However, the room was simply too hot, the air cooling system is simply not good enough and requires to be updated. One of the worst nights sleep I have ever had. The room was simply not cleaned sufficiently either, with mess on the table and floor and used spoons. After speaking to the reception, and finding nothing could be done, I was very disappointed. I am still awaiting 'contact' from the general manager as promised a few days ago. Really disappointed as this has always been my preferred hotel to stay at in Bristol.

I understand that the team did explain to you upon departure how the system operates and for the rooms to remain cool then the windows must be kept close. Although we are experiencing very warm temperatures currently in the UK, I can confirm that the air comforting system is set on a permanent cooling mode and we are unaware of any current similar feedback. In addition, as a precaution, the maintenance team have inspected your allocated room which was found to be a comfortable 18 degrees at the time and they were unable to source any problem with the unit in the bedroom. Regarding the cleanliness of your bedroom, we were totally unaware of this situation as this was not mentioned upon your check out and I will pass on your concerns to my housekeeping team who will revisit the service procedures to prevent future occurrence. On a more positive note, I was glad to hear that you had a very good meal for your girlfriends birthday and I will certainly share this comment with my team. I understand that you stay regularly with us therefore, on your next stay I have instructed my team to ensure you receive a great welcome and hassle free stay. Have stayed at the Novotel on numerous occasions, and have yet to be disappointed. Walkable from Temple Meads railway station, and only about ten minutes walk from the city centre. Also good value for money.

a little remote from city center ; hotel has outside refurbishment, so covered with scafolding ; ground facilities , lobby etc. are OK but rooms are quite oldfashionned and bathroom as well; low grade bed and bathroom things; not what would you would expect for 100£ a night in Bristol

Well-positioned comfortable hotel at a reasonable price: unfortunately the dinner menu is a bit limited but plenty of good restaurants around. Particular favourite if the Olive Tree about 100m down Victoria Street.

Old, dated and overpriced!

I appreciate that it was around the time of the Glastonbury festival but this hotel was very overpriced for what it is. The room I was in 4th floor executive room, was desperately dated and tired. THe room was far to warm - "air con" just blew the air around. Sadly now here near as good as say Novotel central Manchester.

Sorry to learn that your experience did not meet your expectations on this occasion in particular the value for money prompting you to give an overall rating of only 1/5, please accept my sincere apologies. As you have quite rightly mentioned, you did stay with us during the largest event held in the South West which attracts well over 200,000 people therefore, accommodation was scarce to find in the area. I am sure that you are aware that it is standard commercial business practice to offer a flexible pricing policy whereby when low peak periods the rates are extremely attractive however, during a major event then the rates are considerably higher, this works similar to airline seats. However, the choice is entirely your own to make a reservation or alternatively, you could have considered an alternative date. Regarding the air cooling system, I am surprised to read your concern as we certainly did not receive any similar feedback during your stay as our system is now set in the cooling mode for the remainder of the summer. If however, you had opened your bedroom window, then due to the temperature currently reaching 30 degrees in Bristol then this certainly would not help with the cooling of your bedroom. I would like to confirm that my team are available 24/7 and had you alerted us at the time of your concerns then I am sure we would have done our utmost to ensure service recovery. There are a lot of long term roadworks all around the hotel which makes it almost impossible to find the entrance to the hotel. The hotel has scaffolding all around for refurbishing work which started early Saturday morning when we were hoping for a lie in!!

Sorry to hear that the ongoing ever changing city centre roadworks may have caused some inconvenience during your stay together with the hotel scaffolding as we need to address some essential works to the roof to ensure it is weather tight, please accept our sincere apologies. We hope that the hotel building works will be complete in the next couple of weeks however, the Temple Gate city centre project is forecast to be completed in Autumn 2019. Everything was perfect other than the security arrangement. Someone can come in the lobby, get into the lift and into the respective floors without any problem. This is not good for security. I have seen other hotel where you have to access the lift through a protected door or have to swipe the card to be able to press floor button in the lift.

Many thanks for your review, I was concerned to read, that despite your concern regarding security within the hotel, rather that advise us at the time and discuss your concern directly with us, we were very disappointed to learn that you have chosen to post your comments on a public site. Please rest assured, that the health and safety of all guests and colleagues is of paramount importance to Novotel which we take very seriously. We are fully aware that the current lifts are ageing therefore, restricted to fit further security systems to the existing cars. However, as we have already addressed this issue, the lifts are programmed to always stop and open their ors at Ground level which is under the full view of our our CCTV security system. Furthermore, we have and are still in the process of upgrading all the cameras around the public areas including bedroom corridors for additional security. We realize that the current Otis Lifts are ageing and have also prepared a refurbishment program to replace the cars and mechanism which will be completed by Autumn 2019, this will also address the security aspect of requiring a room key to access the lift. We trust that we have been able to answer your concern and it is our hope that you will consider Novotel again in the future and we thank you for your overall rating of 4/5. Family celebration for end of GCSE's spoiled by hot room

We often stay at the Novotel in Bristol, but before it's been during colder weather. This time it was about 15-17 degrees outside, but more like 30 degrees in the room. Front desk staff said to close the windows for the central air to take effect, but it was worse because the central air wasn't cool at all. Seems a little insincere that the staff recommend a course of action that they almost certainly know can't work. Must be a nightmare when the weather gets warm.

The air comforting system at Novotel Bristol operates using the external temperature and gradually adjusts to either a heating or cooling mode. I am sure that you are aware the UK has been facing very erratic temperatures recently whereby during the day very warm and then at night very cold which can be challenging for this particular system. Generally, on the occasions we experience that the rooms are too warm, we would simply advise our guests to switch off the unit in their bedroom and open the windows for a short period of time as this would rapidly cool down the room and apologies if this was not the advise given during your stay.
