Wonderful vacation at La Veranda

We had a very good time at this hotel. The staff always nice and helpful. The hotel was clean, luxurious rooms and the food just great! They had some special twice a week like vine and rum tasting or tea time with cake and sandwiches. La Veranda is surrounded with green and direct on the beach 🏖️

Having spent to two hectic days/nights in Ho Chi Minh City, this was a lovely relaxing retreat at the end of a windy, fascinating little side street just off the busy main road that encircles the island. A sea view room is however essential and the one we had included all you could want from a spacious comfortable bed to a decent large smart TV. The pool is quite small but we had no difficulty finding loungers and the beach is delightful lending itself to stunning photogenic sunsets. We rarely eat in hotel restaurants and there’s plenty of more local eateries within easy walking distance. We tried a Korean barbecue place on the main road and ate twice at Grandma’s Kitchen just up the road from the hotel. This offers a fine selection of Vietnamese dishes, despite its convivial owner being French (!) and at the current rate of around 34k Dong to the pound, we could eat for about £15 to £30 for the two us including beers. We only tried one of the hotel restaurants nearby for lunch by the beach and this was fine. Service throughout the hotel is impeccable and special thanks to Sam who went out of his way to be helpful. On a side note, we found that almost all restaurants on the island and indeed the big cities accept contactless payments so having loaded up a Starling debit card providing pretty much commercial exchange rates, we had little need for Vietnamese cash. We also found using an E-sim invaluable especially when ordering transport via the highly efficient and inexpensive Grab app to get around.

Everything is perfect except the mosquitoes

The hotel is impeccable, with excellent service. The restaurant is unique, featuring French colonial-style décor. We truly admire the staff, who make every effort to ensure guests have a perfect stay. However, mosquitoes and pests are a major issue. We only realized the extent of it after returning home and noticing our legs swollen from mosquito bites. The hotel must take action to improve it. The garbage in the sea was very upsetting. There was plenty of plastic swirling in the beach water. It’s a pity, as the island is suffering greatly from pollution. This is not the hotel’s fault, but a broader issue affecting the entire island.

We had wonderful time la Veranda. We were especially impressed by the service mindset and the kindness of the staff. The room and the hotel location just by the beach were great and the food was excellent. You can also find many good restaurants close by. We can highly recommend this hotel.

Absolutely extraordinary. Never before have I seen the line between deference and polished service and its ugly cousin, obsequiousness, so exquisitely maintained by all the staff at every level. The level of focus on detail married to unobtrusive service lulled one into that perfect holiday ease with .... well .... ease! Definitely a solid 5 star review.
