Guten Abend. I stayed during Anuga week. I'm the worst Deutsch speaker, but the hotel had brought me a smile from morning with high flexibility and diversity mindset. I guess other guest are also same mindset. Thank you so much for your hospitality!!

Fulfilled its function, but stuffy and sticky

The hotel fulfilled its functions. It's located next to a lively stretch of bars and restaurants (though more bars than restaurants), but at least from our room you didn't really hear it at night. So if you like bars and a location away from typical tourist things, this might be the hotel for you. The receptionist was nice. BUT, it has no means of temperature control (read: no air conditioning), which is a disaster for a summer stay. The windows were also closed when we checked in, so it was a long, slow suffocation. The room itself is not the cleanest, either. We found a bunch of cobwebs on the ceiling. So combine a humid summer day with no ventilation + dirt and cobwebs, it felt ... stuffy and sticky. We only stayed a couple of nights, but I feel like any more and this would have dropped my rating to a 2.

We stayed here for 3nights and got a great deal! The hotel is super easy to find, literally when you come out of train station and are looking straight at The Dom at the bottom of steps you turn right and keep walking in a straight line. It takes about 10 mins!! We didn’t have breakfast so I can’t comment on this. The rooms are dated, dark woods everywhere but everything you need and all clean etc. We had a room by the lift on the 4th floor at the back of the hotel. Lovely and quiet. Didn’t hear 1 guest or any traffic! We planned our trip and decided to save taxi costs and brave the train. So so easy!!! The train from the airport - We went to the ticket machine and entered Koln HBF, ticket was 3.20 euros and it took about 14mins. When we left the hotel we walked again back to the station and entered Koln/Bonn airport and it tells you which platform and off you go straight to the terminal building! Excellent weekend. Be sure to go to Cafe Extra Blatt in the old town for a buffet breakfast. We found it by accident on the Sunday and it was a super find! Very busy but we only waited 5mins for a table and stayed a few hours!! Bei Oma Kleinmann is another fabulous place to eat! Their Schnitzels are the best!!! A 20min walk from the hotel but totally worth it! Book in advance though or be prepared to wait.

Stayed in the hotel for New Years, had to extend my stay for a few days thank you to the hotel for looking after us. Hotel is in a nice location, the Irish Bar the Jameson next door and plenty of places to eat around hotel. The Cathedral is about a 15 min walk away, main shopping area is around the same. I had a great few of the street from my room and could open the window fully. The bathroom was a bit small and the hot and cold taps were outside the shower. Would have been great if you could connect your phone or could access Netflix on the TV. Only English speaking station is Sky News. I would recommend this hotel to anybody travelling to Cologne.

I often come to Cologne and I often stays at the Mercure Friesenstrasse, First of all, the security there is great and specially the hotel is around bars and I have not been troubled about any problem. The staff are so nice and great, they try their best to make your needs. I just would like to thank you all the staff for accommodating me always very well. Thank you very much, Thiago Costa.
