Mosquitoes & apathetic customer service

I had a very uncomfortable and sleepless night due to mosquitoes at this hotel. Most Novotel hotels I stayed at are good, hence booked here, but this one is clearly exception. Below is an extract of their Customer Services response (on 24.11.25) regarding my complaint. ".... I would like to clarify that regarding the presence of mosquitoes, our property is located in the countryside, where occasional insects unfortunately cannot be completely avoided. Please rest assured that a full pest-control treatment had been carried out just days before your stay, and we did not receive any similar reports from other guests during your stay. We fully understand the inconvenience; however, as this is an external and natural factor that cannot be entirely controlled....." Customer Service is poor all round as initially they had not acknowledged my written complaint and only responded after a follow up. Statement above is telling in itself as to how they treat customers. After a call, Reception provided mosquito spray at 2.30am. Barring responses from hotel, other aspects were okay.

However, after carefully reviewing your case once again, we would like to clarify a few important points for full transparency: - A complete pest-control treatment had been carried out just before your arrival, certified by our external contractor. - No other guest reported any similar issue during the same period. - When you contacted Reception at night, our team immediately delivered mosquito spray at 2:30 a.m., doing everything possible to assist you at an unusual hour. - Regarding your written complaint, our records show that you received a reply the very same day, followed by an additional clarification. While we fully understand that occasional insects may appear due to external environmental factors—especially in the countryside—we believe our team acted promptly and professionally throughout. Never Again- A 2 Star Review for a 4 Star Hot Mosquito Motel

This so-called 4-star hotel is located in an industrial, remote, and mostly abandoned area, far from shops, restaurants, or attractions. Without a car, it’s very inconvenient and isolating. The rooms are spacious, but outdated and poorly maintained. During our October stay, the A/C was turned off “for the season,” leaving the only option to open the windows for air — which let in mosquitos that kept us awake all night and left us covered in itchy bites. For comfort and safety, Novotel should consider installing window screens to prevent insects from entering and to make the rooms safer for guests with children. Breakfast was overpriced at 15€ per plate. The scrambled eggs were soggy and bland, and the bacon was undercooked, though the pastries were good. Honestly, your money would be better spent on a taxi to get breakfast elsewhere — even McDonald’s would be an improvement. Speaking of taxis, expect to pay 40–50 € each way to the city center and nearly 150€ to the airport. The only positive aspect of our stay was the polite and helpful staff. Overall, it feels like Novotel’s management has stopped investing in quality, leaving the property well below its claimed standard. Only stay here if you have no other options.

Our location, close to the highway junction, is generally appreciated by guests who travel for business or wish to reach both the city center and the airport easily. In mid-October, based on seasonal temperatures, it was not possible to keep the air conditioning system active, in accordance with current regulations. Regarding mosquitoes, the hotel regularly follows a scheduled disinfestation program. Breakfast has always been one of the hotel’s highlights, as confirmed by many positive reviews, and we regret that it did not meet your taste. Convenient for a Rome stopover.

This is a fairly typical but nice enough Italian version of a chain hotel. The kids loved the pool and breakfast, and it was convenient enough for a stopover in Rome.

Located almost away from amenities. Kind of secluded type of vibe. Here are my likes: 1. Spacious room 2. Good wifi 3. Hot shower 4. Good size pool 5. Punctual housekeeping Dislikes: 1. Got to pay for water in minibar 2. Aircon control does not work. Room is cold at 30°C. I slept with aircon off 3. Call for room service has no answer after multiple tries. It us also only available at specific times. Not round the clock 4. Room Doors are heavy and they became noisy when guests bang the doors to close 5. TV channels are not inpressive 6. Gym is too small 7. Breakfast was not much of variety 8. Kettle in room is not clean 9. You can hear the footsteps of guests at a higher level in the room 10. Pillows are too soft Seems like an ideal place for families with play facilities at the lounge area for kids and adults.

Decent price, clean and a good size room. Happy with the room and service but do be aware that you need a sense of adventure with the location of this hotel. Train Station under a 10 min walk but it’s an adventurous walk across a field and a road with no path. Trains every 30 min and cheap into Rome. No places to get food etc close by unless you fancy a very unsafe walk about 20min away. So unsafe we got a taxi back after risking it on the way. We struggled to find a room that would fit all 4 of us in Rome at an affordable price so this was a good option.
