Unfortunate set of circumstances

We had to wait nearly 20 minutes at an empty reception desk to be attended. We were allocated an upstairs 2 bedroom apartment (411 I think), the air con didn’t cool the whole place as the windows by the kitchen sink don’t close properly and the second bedroom doesn’t have a unit so you need the one in the lounge to cool the bedroom also. On leaving it was raining and we noticed that the steps were tiled with no grip strips, despite being super careful I slipped straight off the first step and was carried down the entire flight to the ground on my backside suffering cuts and bruises

I have been using this place since inception. It's a good accommodation site but it needs a drastic maintenance program. Swimming pool needs attention to revitalize it's normal appearance. WI-FI has been improved which is a good sign. A/C works well but the second room also needs A/C

We got there checked in the staff was not friendly at all. We specifically asked for rooms next to each other since it was two couples. We did not get that Asked to change rooms for rooms next to each other they gave us one down stairs and one upstairs. Which made me even more angry cause one person we traveled with was pregnant. They got rid of us while chilling at the pool with our drinks. The manager did not speak to other guest properly, completely did not treat them well. The pool was so dirty and we wanted to swim. It was dirty the whole time. The whole hotel which is more than 20 rooms is using one iron and ironing board. We asked for a iron, 15 minutes later another guest was waiting for it, one of the staff members knocked and was standing there asking for it. the same iron we asked for 3 hours ago. We had to check out the following day after one day of being there, and ask for a refund to go book elsewhere. There was no cutlery in the rooms. I'm honestly not happy about this hotel and the service. They do not put the needs of the people first. We booked at the next hotel and the experience was amazing. I wouldnt go back to Mercure hotel no matter how desperate I am. It was so many guest that were not happy. Including all four of us. We were asked what are the reasons for a early check out I stated all the above and the manager made all the excuses possible and offered us free weekend booking on them, at another time whenever we would like to go. We turned him down on the offer. Mpumalanga branch. MDO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY AND BOOK THERE!!!!

I have been using the mercury for more than 10 years. And the last few years the rooms are degraded. Not cleaned. Sheets not clean. Carpet not clean. Couch not clean. Bathroom with no maintenance. It’s very sad to see the hotel like it’s abandon.

Considering you have received a critic about your rooms cutlery It show your lack of willingness to improve that rooms still have no cutlery. Even on request we don't get standard cutlery issued to self catering facilities. This is poor service. The manager is never around to hear guest complaints but busy walking up and down the hotel looking at rooms. She is a very unwelcoming manager.

I had a good stay however, Mercure can do with a little upgrade and proper gardening service. The hotel was much more beautiful in 2017.

First disclaimer. We were supposed to stay here in April. Hotel was closed due to covid. Took me few months to get my money back, but it finally happened. So I was in contact with the GM before we checked-in this time. Well....so all should have gone smoothly for a Gold Member. Last time I stay her was some 8-10 years ago. On check-in, zero recognition as a Gold Member. I had to call the GM to explain to her about the welcome drink vouchers. Once in the room, zero note or welcome from management. Next, the towels are filthy. They are simply grey and years old. Next...try to get your drink at the bar. They have wine, but not a decent wine glass in view. Look like the GM never checked this place after the lock down! Next, the swimming pool is even more dirty than the towels...had a look....but no thanks! Disgrace! We left at 4.30am....went to pick up my invoice. This is a 24 hours hotel....but nobody in reception beside a cute cat for a good 10 minutes. We left! Next stay, after the Friday night stay, her we are back on Sunday night. Nice staff at reception....but this time no towels in room...and pillow cases are disgusting! I wrote an email to GM Friday evening. We were in hotel from Sunday evening till Monday morning 10.45am...guess what...got a reply around 4pm on Monday. Maybe the GM is just a part time one, or she is never involved in the property! This place is not even the level of a budget Ibis. But I personally have more issues with properly none competent or let's put is simply...non-existant management! Avoid this place!

Dear 73P-Alex I apologise that you felt that you were not treated as VIP guest and that I consider my job as part time. When I received your email, I had an emergency at the hotel and could not attend to your problem immediately. I did reply to your email in the afternoon explaining to you that we are attend to and resolving your problems. You mentioned you did not get your refund in time - when you contacted us in April, I advised you by email that we did not have access to the hotel and systems as we were on lock down. Once we were allowed to travel, we immediately refunded your account. I was in continuous contact you with advising you of the situation. I will take your suggestions on board in being a better manager. Regards
