I’m giving the Novotel 4 stars for its great location, large rooms and lovely pool. Plus I got a great price $149 through accor plus membership and I got my platinum benefits. I did have to ask for the room upgrade and I was found a 1 bedroom apartment after I had said I would prefer this to the standard room I had booked. Platinums should be upgraded without asking… The room was pleasant enough but it is quite tired looking. They really need to renovate the rooms and update the furniture and ambiance. Otherwise I would say this is not a Novotel - more like ibis styles. The pool is great. Large and nice facilities. Water a little cold but ok for me as I swim in the sea at home. Staff average - there was a Peloton gym offer for bonus points that no one knew about so I was asked to email screenshots to reception and they would help, but I was ignored. Breakfast was tasty but can you turn the music down please! I would come back for a room at $150 but not for any higher.

The good thing about this hotel is its location, which is right in the heart of Canberra CBD, close to shops, restaurants, university, the lake and the tram is right out thr front door. The hotel staff are very friendly, helpful and efficient. Thr rooms are large enough, and the bathroom was the best part of the room with a large bench and hot shower. However, the room is very tired and rugged with scuff marks on the wall, tears in the chair (which is extremely uncomfortable), worn carpet, and a general hagged appearance. With a spruce up, the room would look and feel amazing. There is a large window that lets in a lot of light, which is nice. Te breakfast was bitterly disappointing, and at 830am, most things were gone, such as juice, toast, and ceral..they hadnt been replenished. If the hotel was jazzed up a bit, given a lick of paint, some new furniture and modern decor, it could really be something.

At a higher cost than other, closer to the city options this is a bit of a mixed bag. Positives included fairly good sound proofing and the internet was great during the day (less so in the evenings) as well as the ease of checking out a bit later. But then we have the towel saga. I checked into Novotel around 7pm. Got to the room…no towels. No signage either (I have stayed in places who do the whole “green approach” thing before) but nope nothing. I went to ask for a bath towel at 9pm - because you can’t call reception - but 50 people were checking in from a bus so I noped out, grabbed a pool towel and used that. The next morning I went to let reception know I had no bath towels so they didn’t think I had lost or stolen them. I was told “we don’t do towels”. What. Apparently their guests don’t want them!? The gentleman was very adamant, there was no misunderstanding. Their guests don’t want towels so they don’t put them in the room and you must ask for them apparently. He dug down pretty hard on that being their hotel policy. I made it clear actually I did want a towel and I was staying for 6 nights and thought this was ridiculous. I managed to stop short of asking if all their guests just shake off like Labradors? I had a towel delivered that day. Then the next day they added another towel but left me the one still hanging up. And by the end of my stay I had a total of 7 towels in the room.

I had the pleasure of staying again at Novotel Canberra this week. Simply, I stay to enjoy a hassle free home away from home. The hotel is clean and well managed by competent staff. Dining is readily available at the hotel's restaurant and bar, where all tastes are catered for. The restaurant's menu is kept seasonal, in sync with the regional produce and wines. The maitre d and waiters all care about your experience. The background music blends in to make it feel vibrant. A good reason to visit!

Stayed 3 night here for 4 of us. Comfy bed, clean room, great b’fast (kids eats free!), great room service, great restaurant, great location. The let downs are flat pillows and AC! It was dead set at 22*C, warm enough to woke us up n kids slept without blankets.
