Probably best suited to a one-night stopover, rather than a holiday stay

Location - the hotel is on an industrial estate about 2km walk from the edge of Laval (a bit further to the centre). First impressions of the setting and location were disappointing as I prefer staying nearer to a town and its facilities. I chose Laval because it is close to a lot of interesting sights and towns - so I decided just to use the hotel as somewhere to sleep, after visiting elsewhere. I stayed more than one night so needed to eat in the evenings and it was quite a hard walk just to get to a choice of restaurants. There is a pub/brasserie nearby, but it's preferable to have a choice. Room - I knew the hotel was going to be basic - but I was still surprised at how basic it is. There is very little in the room - only one small shelf to put anything on and nowhere to hang clothes, apart from two hooks by the television. There are no tea/coffee making facilities in the room - you can only buy drinks from a machine in the foyer. There is very little space in the room for luggage or to walk round the bed to the window. There was a television in the room, which had a good choice of channels and the wi-fi worked well. Considering how basic the hotel was, I don't think it was that good value for money. I had just stayed at a really lovely hotel with lots of space in the room and great facilities for only ten Euros a night more than Hotel F1. Bed - was comfortable and the linen seemed clean. The cleaners seemed to work very hard and cleaned my room twice during my stay (four nights) Sleep - I didn't sleep very well, as you can hear noise from the corridor very clearly. People seemed to be coming and going all night, so there was a lot of noise of doors opening and closing. I couldn't hear much noise from inside other rooms, though. Bathroom - was really tiny, but everything worked and was very clean. However, the water only got hot after running the shower for about 5 minutes before getting into it - even then, it wasn't very hot. The water in the basin was cold until you had run the shower for some time. Breakfast - there was a fair choice. The muesli was really good quality. The bread was fresh. Staff - they seem to work very hard. As stated, the place was very clean and there was always someone on hand in the morning to answer any questions that I had. Parking - there was free parking on-site.

Hotel probably best suited to a one-night stopover rather than a few days' stay

As a solo female traveller, I was pretty dismayed when I arrived at this hotel. I booked it online before my trip to France and was expecting a "basics" hotel, but when I got there it seemed like a far less than basic accommodation. Value for money-wise, I don't think the hotel reflects the price as I had stayed at a lovely, welcoming hotel with great facilities, a couple of nights earlier - and that had only cost 10 Euros a night more! The F1 room was tiny, dark and felt cold - there was a heater, but I didn't use it as the outside temperature wasn't too cold. At first, I felt like I was checking into a prison block or bail hostel! There is a big emphasis on technology - as in there is no key, just an entry code. There was no-one on site when I got there and the check-in machine didn't work. I had to work out that I needed to go to the posher version of Ibis nextdoor to find a receptionist. She was great and checked me in, and let me know that someone would be on-site at the F1 Hotel later. Room - there was only one surface to store things. It was near the bed but there was no bedside table. There were only two hooks in the wall for hganging clothes. There were no tea/coffee making facilities in the room - you had to go to the foyer and buy drinks from a machine. The walls were plainly decorated in heavy-duty wood chip - apart from one "feature wall" which was made up of a collage of travel posters. It was almost as if the room had been designed, not just to be basic, but actually to be less than comfortable! Bed - was comfortable. The linen seemed very clean. The cleaners seemed to work very hard and cleaned my room twice while I was there (a four-night stay). Bathroom - extremely small. Decoration and general repair was very good. The shower stall was quite large. Unfortunately, the water ran cold until I'd had the shower on for at least five minutes. The first day I was there, it was quite warm but after that it never really ran more than lukewarm. Breakfast - this was quite good, with a selection of bread types, spreads like jam or peanut butter, cheese, cake and cereals. I thought the muesli was excellent - seemed very good quality. The concierge was always there at breakfast time so you could ask, if you had any issues. Location - the hotel is situated on an industrial estate, 2km away from Laval. There is a pub-style restaurant (Pub Brasserie) around the corner from the hotel, if you fancy a drink with dinner or just don't want to walk 30 minutes to get to town. The food was OK but, if you stay for a few nights, a walk to town is necessary for a choice of restaurants. Laval is situated at a reasonable distance from a lot of tourist sites and attractions, so it's a good base to tour from. However, I would probably choose another option (another town or a hotel in Laval) if I visited the area again.

The rooms are tiny, the bathroom minute. No hairdryer, only 1 pillow, poor choice of breakfast
