I received a parking infringement ticket for when I was staying at Novotel lakeside Rotorua despite being told I could park in the car park for free. When I arrived at the hotel I was told that I could use the hotel car park and if I signed up with an Accor membership the parking would be free for my stay at the hotel. The gentleman who I believe was the manager actually completed the membership application for me and told me I could park in the car park for free. I have now received an email telling me that I had parking infringement for parking there during my stay at Novotel. I have just called the hotel and the receptionist gentleman accepted liability and told me that this was down to your error and if I emailed the infringement notice to you it would be sorted out. However despite numerous emails I am being ignored and getting no response. Please note there is also a charge from the hire car company because they have charged an admin fee. This is your error, please sort this out ASAP!

This was the most disappointing hotel we stayed at during three weeks in NZ. The hotel does not feel clean; there was dirt on the carpets in the lobby and the hall on our floor (do they even own a vacuum cleaner?); the carpet in our room was stained, and the second morning there was no hot water in our room. The hotel feels tired, and it really needs a make-over. The only thing that keeps this from being a one-star review is the location and the breakfast buffet, which was not bad. I am sure there are better options in Rotorua.

When you pay in advance for an 8am check in and the room isnt ready at 10am, it is not a great start to a trip. Whilst the staff may tell you the booking was made by the website so nothing they can do, ultimately the Novotel website and Novotel hotel are both Novotel and shouldn’t be the customers problem. Rooms are fine if a little dated now and the breakfast buffet was great

Faisal T Solo travel - TripAdvisor review

Upon my arrival the front desk advised that my reservation was for another date. After I showed them my booking number they asked me to take a seat in the lobby as they investigated. Hannah advised of the situation and offered support to accommodate while the staff waited for confirmation from the travel agency. In the end all was resolved by the staff which was greatly appreciated. The room was clean and decent but parts were outdated. Apparent stains on the carpet as well as hair in the shower which was not removed from the previous guests. For a Novotel chain was expecting the cleanliness to better. Location is great. Across the street is Eat Street with a good selection of restaurants and bars. It is very close to the ‘city centre’ as well.

I expect a hotel of your standard to have tissues in the room, generally shower caps as well. A one hour wait for milk to be delivered to the room and then only after a reminder. Also two people in the room should have two of each type of towel. Having to ask for things is really terrible.
