Safe choice, but beware the top floor!

Standard Ibis and nothing extraordinary about it. Very helpful and chatty crew at the reception, nice renovated room on the top floor.. and everything seemed to be great until the evening. It so happens, there are some air conditioning engines on the roof and our room was literally below one of those. Vibration and jet engine-like sound were too much for me and at 11PM we changed the room, 1st floor, not renovated yet, but at least quiet. Breakfast basic, but that was expected. Location really good for exlporing the amazing city of Coimbra!

The Ibis is Coimbra is perfectly situated along the water front, near shops and a short 5 minute walk from the train station. Upon check in the staff was very friendly. In fact, I would say it was one of the best check in experiences I have ever had. The rooms are adequately sized. The air conditioning was perfect and kept me cool during the heat and humidity. Breakfast was good. Overall, no complaints. I loved the Ibis and would return.

I stayed at the hotel on business, we were booked by a business partner. In a word: never again. The room was on the 1st floor. The window was facing the shopping centre, which was more often than not empty. In front of the window dirt from this centre, loud fans of the air conditioning from the centre. The room was still ok, clean, but only one towel for each person. There was a strange smell in the corridor of the hotel and in the room. It was almost impossible to open the window. The reception said that the smell was just the way it was because we were in a two-star hotel. Breakfast: average, coffee average. In the morning you have to tell the reception that you want the room cleaned and towels changed.

The hotel is standard ibis. Staff is nice and speak English. Bar is open 24 hours. Parking is €8. Right now, there is construction by the river blocking views. Staff is great…. I left my purse in the bar, and they called the room to tell me and say they’d keep it at reception. They also helped with map and recommendations for restaurants.

If you are ONLY used to American parking garages, you might be surprised. But take your time, go back and forth a bit, and you'll make it out without a scratch. Rooms were nice and spacious like some of the NY city hotels.
