We arrived at the hotel from the cruise port just after 10am. We chose this ibis due to its location about a 6 min walk to HBF central station. We knew we would be unable to check in until after 3 pm, so were shown where the locker room is (2 euros per locker - DONT close it till you have everything you need). Off we went for a day trip to Lunaberg which was fabulous. We got back at 5pm and checked in. The staff were friendly and professional. Our three rooms were scattered round this large budget hotel. My room was located on the 2nd floor at the front. We did not get any noise. The room was standard ‘funky’ ibis. Some parts i like - some i dont. The lights on wires that hang from ceiling by bed i don’t - i always fear i will strangle myself on the dangling wire! The bathroom was compact and bijou. The beds firm. The decor was the ibis grey and brown with the ‘wobbly’ drawn books etc around the tv. Our friends did not fare as well, and found scaffolding and workmen outside their room. Not good! Breakfast was standard ibis fare including their powdered scrambled egg..blah..the cold offering along with pastries and a great coffee machine helped give a breakfast of sustenance. The main positive point is its location just a five min walk to lake snd 6 mins to the platforms if the railway station.

The hotel is located near the main Hamburg train station and the Alster Lake which is a plus. It features pictures of a restaurant but the restaurant is only open for breakfast. On a previous visit the restaurant was open for other meals. This resulted in having to walk some distance to find restaurants for other meals. Another plus of the location was that the Hop On Hop Off bus stopped right across the street. The hotel is definitely not friendly for anyone with walking or mobility issues. Their website says that all rooms can be accessed by elevator. White technically true, in practice it is not true. In order to reach our room there was a long walk which included stairs which eventually led to a small elevator. Forty of the hotels rooms must be accessed this way. The room lacked several amenities such as lotion, coffee/tea maker, mini fridge, etc. There was no place in the bathroom to set small items such as toothbrushes, cosmetics, medications, etc. Service from staff varied from very good to poor.
