I visited this hotel recently along with 12 friends and I can not recommend the hotel enough. The staff were polite and helpful and certainly not rude or racist as some recent reviews have suggested. The hotel was able to accommodate our request for twin rooms, which were all clean, spacious and modern. The hotel is just a short walk from the cathedral as well as the town square which has many bars and restaurants. The hotel is also very close to the train station and therefore getting to and from the airport is very simple. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Köln and would recommend this hotel to anyone that is visiting the city in the future.

I am writing to express my extreme disappointment with the level of customer service I received during my recent stay at Hotel Mondial am Dom Cologne. As a frequent traveler, I understand that not every hotel experience can be perfect, but the issues I encountered during my stay were unacceptable and racist! Stayed at the hotel on the 13/5/2024. The front desk staff at 8pm working in this hotel was very rude, racist and badly trained. Even the manager seemed indifferent, unhelpful and doesn’t portray proper hospitality. When I complained to the manager that the front desk staff was raising his voice, talking down to us and rolling his eyes at us. She told us that her staff is never rude! She doesn’t even know the basic rule of hospitality. With a poor customer orientated manager, it’s no surprise that the whole front desk staff is badly trained. German culture doesn’t give the staff any reason to treat the customer so badly. As this is an international hotel group. It should follow the international standard of warm and enthusiasm in their service. The main priority in any hospitality job is to satisfy the customer and make their experience perfect. In a service-oriented industry being understand, patience and FRIENDLY is a must. If the staff are not willing to provide the bare minimum, then they shouldn’t be working in this line! I am Singaporean Chinese. I understand English perfectly as it’s our main language in our country! I believe my command of English is way better than the front desk staff. So please stop asking if I understand English when we are having a conversation in it! It’s very insulting and disrespectful! Please learn to treat your customers of other races with more respect! ALMOST ALL THE GREAT REVIEW ARE GIVEN FROM NON ASIAN CUSTOMERS . Double standard 😡 Again! Horrible service and attitude from hotel staff. Unqualified manager. I urge the group management to address this issues promptly and take necessary steps to improve your customer service. I hope that my concerns will be heard and that appropriate measures will be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future. How is this a 4 stars hotel?

Racist staff with a very poor attitude. Why be in hospitality when you cannot provide guests courteously. Bad service just ruined the whole holiday. Staff was accusing, rolling eyes and just plain rude. The hotel manager included. Is it all Germans? Or just this hotel I wonder.

We’ve visited Cologne twice and stayed here both times. The big things it has going for it are proximity to the Cathedral and the central station. Both are a 3 minute walk. Some of their rooms (front facing) have very nice Cathedral views, and we were fortunate to have that spectacular view on our first visit, but sadly not this time. The room we had this time was relatively small, but not tiny. It had a small wardrobe, safety deposit box, small fridge, kettle, hospitality tray and 2 small bottles of water daily. The bed was clean and very comfortable and our room was quiet. The shower was easy to control and had good water pressure. TV was a large, flat screen wall mounted model, but English language channels were limited to the Comedy Channel and Sky News International. Check on and out was fairly quick and efficient. Rooms were cleaned and serviced daily. We didn’t eat in the hotel at all as we prefer to eat when we’re out and about, and a German Bakery breakfast is hard to beat. Internet speed was pretty good, but connection dropped constantly, so it was a bit of a pain having to reconnect to the WiFi numerous times per day. Overall though, we’d certainly stay again.
