Smell of the plague

Smell of the plague - I checked into room 210 and there was an acute drain smell in the bathroom. I called reception and a member of staff agreed that it was not acceptable. She took me to another room which had the same problem and it was the same. So then staff member said she would get the technician to resolve the issue in room 210. After dinner I was assured it had all been fixed. Went back to the room and the bathroom was smelling fresh - little did I know that all they had done was to spray an atomiser - after taking a shower and getting dressed for bed the smell was back. However after a 13 hr drive from the U.K. I was too exhausted to argue and change rooms. This morning it was the smell of the plague and it was impossible to have a shower without gagging! Complained at reception - shrug of the Gaelic shoulders - all I was offered was a free breakfast and 30% off the room bill. Not acceptable.

This Mercure hotel stay was shockingly below par. Slow service, no air-conditioning in warm weather without notification, inadequate and dirty fan, restaurant served the wrong fish without informing us, and charged for slippers. A truly disappointing experience that does not reflect the Accor brand.

Worst Stay of Our Trip – Poor Maintenance, No AC, and a Sleepless Night

We stayed at Hôtel Mercure Dijon Centre Clemenceau, and unfortunately, it was the most disappointing hotel of our 6-stop European trip. The extra bed we paid for was delivered in poor condition — some slats were missing, and it couldn’t be used properly until we requested repairs. For a hotel in this price range, this should never have been overlooked. The central air conditioning wasn’t on, and no explanation was given (maybe seasonal). We had to open the window just to breathe. Unfortunately, the room overlooked an intersection and tram line, so the noise, streetlight glare, and mosquitoes made rest nearly impossible. Even our 5-year-old child couldn’t sleep. Between the discomfort, the noise, and the lack of basic maintenance, we left exhausted and disappointed. Mercure is a brand we expected more from — but this fell far below the standard. This is only the second hotel review I’ve written in ten years — because no traveler should have to go through this.

The hotel is in a good location with shops and restaurants locally. The rooms are fine and the beds comfortable. The hotel is let down a bit by unfriendly reception and bar staff. Underground parking at an additional cost. They have electric car chargers but they are super slow (I think 2.5kw) Overall ok but could be improved with more friendly staff.

Sleepless Evening Due to Unattended Dog and Poor Response from Staff

I recently stayed at Mercure Dijon, and unfortunately, it was far from a restful experience. From 8:00 PM to 10:30 PM, a dog in a nearby room barked incessantly, disrupting the entire floor. We visited the reception twice to report the issue, but no effective action was taken. It became clear that the hotel allows guests to leave their dogs unattended in rooms, a policy that caused significant disturbance to everyone nearby. If you're considering this hotel for a quick stopover, I would strongly advise against it—it might result in a frustrating and sleepless night. I hope management takes this issue seriously and reviews their pet policy to ensure a more peaceful stay for future guests.
