Mercure Omaha Beach Hotel bintang 4

We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived here as part of a Trafalgar tour. We might have been lucky with our room, but we had a lovely view over the pool, and our room was clean, modern and comfortable. We had prompt service by the pool from the bar. We had a lovely dinner as part of the tour in the clubhouse restaurant, and quite a few of us enjoyed the bar after dinner with good service, My husband was disappointed he didn’t get to play golf but the course looked very nice.

Stayed there last weekend. Nice place, facilities fine (although Steam room wasn't functional) and staff pleasant. However, what left a bad taste in my mouth was that we were overcharged, only reaised on the drive to the ferry and subsequent attempts at resolving this have been ignored. Not a small amount (±€100) butenough to make the end of our 3 week holiday taste a little sour... Nice place, as I said, good location, but please make sure you cross reference your bar/restaurant bills before you leave. Still very upset I've been ignored, despite several emails.

As is usually the case on hotel websites their pictures look better than the real deal. Don’t be fooled by this. This place is so incredibly outdated it’s sad. This wouldn’t be an issue if it was otherwise a great hotel. It isn’t. It’s one of the few hotels in the area so it’s easy to become a ‘travelers choice’ on trip advisor. As a starting point; remember that the star rating in France means something completely different than in other countries. In this hotel I wonder what makes it 4 stars (they forgot to update the road signs as they still show its former 3 star rating, which is more believable) So what’s bad; Sagged mattresses; there’s a huge sag in the mattresses and you sleep on the wooden board that’s underneath it. Showerhead; spills everywhere but not your body. Bathroom lights; they flicker Fire alarm; it goes of at 1am. When evacuating the building we were told it was ‘just water’. You read that right, water set off the fire alarm. So a false alarm. I then told the night manager to write down my complaint straight away which he refused stating ‘it wasn’t his fault’ and ‘we should be happy there wasn’t a real fire and that atleast the alarm works’. I urged him to write down the complaint so there was no way of ignoring it the next morning. I was then shouted at in French by another member of the personnel who was off duty and in off duty clothing. Really professional stuff here Next morning we checked out after 1 night after initially planning to stay 3 nights as this is a horrible place. The receptionist then mentioned again that we should be happy that atleast the fire alarm works. She was also ‘very surprised’ by our other findings. We also ate at the albatros restaurant. I suggest avoiding that too. There was a buffet restaurant with bbq food. As a bbq fan myself I was disappointed to see they were flipping steaks for a minute on each side and then serving them. They were still raw and cold. The desserts of the buffet were really good but hardly justify the €40 price per person. Breakfast was mediocre and they pre sliced the baguettes causing all of it to go stale.

We stayed here two nights as part of a week long walking holiday. It was a great experience. Arriving at the hotel and seeing the surrounding beautiful golf course was just a starter. The reception staff were terrific - relaxed, happy and very professional. Our room was so good. A balcony overlooking the pool, robes, a huge bed and excellent aircon. We were undecided about eating our evening meal at the hotel but after a long days walk we decided to eat in. And we were glad we did. Really excellent food and staff. The hotel had organised a BBQ and we had the best tuna steak ever. Everything else was also of high standard. We made the decision to eat in again the second night and again had an excellent meal. Well done Mercure. You have a great hotel and great people working there.

The hotel sits on a golf course, which surprised us. Very lovely French countryside. 15 minute drive to Omaha beach and American National cemetery. We visited both and it is so moving. However there is no Uber available, very limited taxi service. Plan ahead if you are planning to ride the train from Bayeux. Rooms are small but hotel staff is very helpful, pleasant and English speaking. Good value.
