Some disappointing aspects considering the price

We have just spent 5 nights in north & east France in 5 different hotels, all of ‘apparently’ similar quality and the comparison has been quite interesting. Of the 5, two were Ibis Hotels charging considerably more than the Campanile chain, but you do get a larger room for the money. However regarding facilities they’re probably not much different and the extra £35 a night wasn’t worth it. This hotel is in a convenient location close to the town, but parking on the main road was a bit hit and miss, though there was a public carpark a hundred metres or so along the road. The size of our room was reasonable but the tiny window made it feel dark and claustrophobic and it definitely smelt of smoke! There was no door catch of any kind on the ensuite door so it wouldn’t stay in the closed position and maintenance was needed on the shower hose to stop water leaking out everywhere. However lots of towels were supplied. Disappointingly there were no tea/coffee making facilities. We found the memory foam topper to the mattress hot and uncomfortable. Overnight there was a lot of noise from the stairwell, corridors, the road outside and from neighbouring rooms, indicating the building was probably of a metal frame construction. A change to room doors that close quietly without the need to slam them would be of HUGE benefit. The breakfast buffet was reasonable but we didn’t sample the restaurant food in the evening.

Very good for one night

We stayed here on a Saturday Night on our trip to southern Italy. Easy to get to, and plenty of free parking opposite the hotel. The receptionist spoke good English and was very helpful. The room was comfy and clean, but tiny, OK for just 1 night. Internet was very good Restaurant is closed on the weekend, but we had a wonderful meal next door. Breakfast was of good quality, including proper orange juice and bacon. Everything was constantly replanished. Perhaps slightly smaller selection then some {no yoghurt} but fresh pancakes. One small detail, no individual butter pats but a proper block, and that was some of the best butter we have tested. One point, nothing to do with the Hotel, but might be useful for some. In the past 3 years or so when making this journey we have not gone by Switzerland, but by the Fréjus Road Tunnel. With the ending of Covid we went by Switzerland, it cheaper after all. The journey in Switzerland was not quick or easy many holdups, added at least 2 or even 3 hours to our journey. You get what you pay for.

A Good Stay

We stayed here for several nights, opposite the river Meurthe, in the town of St. Die, Des Vosges, north/eastern France. Helpful staff on arrival, small, but ample bedroom space. All clean/tidy. Breakfast was ample too and relaxing. A good central base to work from within this hilly region (famous for being part of the Tour De France). Cafes/bars are close by (one's next door). Nice riverside walks to be had and an American style bowling alley is a 10 - 15 minute walk to the east. War memorials are a short walk to the west. We had a good stay.

Super small noisy rooms

Bad value for money

I don't like giving bad reviews, but I have no choice but to leave a 'poor' rating for this hotel. A hotel somewhere in the province with restaurants nearby which close at 9.30pm - I think €80 is by far too much (especially as I was a single traveller). Breakfast is not included in the price (which costs about €10 extra.) But there are more things to criticise. The girl at the reception doesn't speak a single word of English. The bed has a much too soft mattress which moves and bends with every movement. Next to the night tables are no sockets, which means it is impossible to read your paper on your I-pad in bed whilst it is charging - it has to be placed on a console by far too far away from the bed. In the bathroom is just one plastic container which (allegedly) serves as soap, body wash, shaving cream, shampoo .... quite mean for the €80 they charge. The size of the wardrobe is a joke - you can't hang more than 2-3 items to fill it completely. A few months ago I stayed in an Ibis hotel near Milan which cost only €45 and was in every respect much better than this one. I left for them an excellent feedback, which they definitely deserved. I would definitely not return to that Ibis in France.

If restaurants surroundings farm at 9:30 pm, our is opened till 23 hours. The bed, the size of the furniture, the welcome gifts and the price rate of the breakfast 9.90€ (buffet) is in agreement with the policy of the hotels of the sign ibis We work hard to deliver an exceptional guest experience, and it's apparent in this case that we fell short. If you give us a chance to earn back your trust, I can assure you that we will do our best to give you the great hotel experience that so many of our guests have grown so fond of. Sincerely,
