Not at all what we would expect at a 4-star Mercure hotel!

The positives: The staff were all very friendly, very helpful and accommodating and could not have been nicer. The hotel is well positioned close to the old town and harbour and its multitude of restaurants. Good parking available at the hotel. Nice selection of food for breakfast. Attractive and comfortable public areas. Good beds. The negatives: The room which we had – 412 – was tiny, not at all what we have come to expect from Mercure hotels and certainly not what we would expect from any four-star hotel. The overly large table in the room took up a lot of space and whilst the armchair and other chair were OK to use, they contributed to the overall lack of space. The horribly dark décor accentuated this as did the fact that there was only one small window and very poor lighting in the main bedroom area. The room was so dark that we found ourselves having to have the lights on at almost any time of day! Even then, there was an all-pervading feeling of lack of light! The door to the bathroom – black – had a number of very noticeable scratches and paint chips on it. In the bathroom, there were insufficient facilities to hang towels, bathmats etc. to dry. Space was at a bit of a premium in the bathroom generally although the shower was good, if a bit slippery underfoot. In the main room, the electric light switches and the power points were difficult to find given the lack of natural light and that they were black against black walls. Whilst it was nice to have a Nespresso machine in the room, there was no way of identifying what the various pods provided were, so it was potluck as to what coffee one ended up with. Also, if one was not familiar with how such machines operate, there were no instructions to assist. Finally, the carpet in our room looked dirty and well-used In summary, our stay was somewhat spoiled by the fact that we were paying four-star prices for a bedroom which was smaller than many we have experience in two-star hotels at one-third the price. This hotel’s accommodation certainly fell far short of the space standards we have come to expect from stays at other Mercure hotels both in France and elsewhere.

Location within Honfleur is good and close to restaurants and shopping. The staff is pleasant and willing to assist. The optional breakfast offered many choices of quality hot and cold foods. Plus a coffee machine with cappuccinos and more as well a pot of regular coffee and warm milk. The bar is small but available in the evenings and usually staffed by whomever is working reception. The rooms are small and offer little storage with only a few shelves, a hanging area and no drawers. I had requested extra hangers and was given as many as I needed. A Nespresso and hot pot are in the rooms as well as a bathrobe. The shower (no tub) was adequate but the water was not extremely hot. The room was quiet. The room itself showed some wear and the carpet needed a deep cleaning as stains were evident. I was there for a week as part of a tour group and it worked well for us.

Two days in Honfleur with one night at the Mercure. The hotel is located at 5 min walk from the harbour which is an ideal location. We had a front view room but this was very quiet. The room is nicely decorated and cosy. Nicest experience was the personal touch with the personnel at the reception where the lady in charge (probably the manager) was very nice and gave us a lot of indications and advices. Really the way you want to be received in an hotel. Breakfast very good, conform expectations for an hotel from this level.

This hotel is just above the budget Ibis range of the Accor portfolio, and typically resides within a traditional town facade i.e.not a modern new build. This is reflective at check-in where a lady is sitting at a small table with a laptop, a little random? My wife and I are light sleepers thereforeI requested a privilege room on the top floor at the end of the corridor well away from any elevator, but unfortunately and this seems to be normal, this request was ignored or not conveyed via the Accor system, therefore our room was located opposite the elevator. I approached the lady at check-in but she was not in a position or rather reluctant to change our room as they were expecting a large touring party therefore the hotel was full? That said the room was bright, modern and the bed was large and comfortable overlooking the river and quay-side. The Accor website is a fidly to use, to try and find detail on the hotel such as parking is always a problem, and this detail needs updating, it transpires that parking is available at the rear of this hotel via a specific route with key code entry, and this should be pre-booked, but we were fortunate a space was available at 15 Euros extra per day which was a surprise?

Decent bed. Decent shower. Location is a 8/10.Everything else is a bit grey/dated/average. Its another one of those, 'breakfast and parking not included' themes, which have crocked up since covid. Same as RyanAir. Location is good being a short walk to everything that you could want. Pillows uncomfortable.
