Excellent downtown hotel

Stayed at the hotel in November 2025 and had an excellent experience overall. The hotel is well-located, less than 10 minutes from Union Station, so it's really useful for arriving in the city and getting around. Despite being really central, and on a street lined with bars, the hotel was really quiet inside and even with a front-facing room, we weren't disturbed by street noise at all (not something you can say often in Toronto!). The rooms for a city hotel are very large and well-maintained. The only drawback was a lack of storage space, which, when staying for a week with winter layers, was something of an issue for two of us! We had breakfast included in our rate, and for that it was a good deal- an excellent buffet, with a variety of hot and cold options, along with coffee, tea and juice. It's a little pricy if you're paying day by day, but if you can get a good room rate with it included, it's worth it. Hotel breakfast staff were outstanding- so friendly and attentive, and made us feel very welcome. All the staff we encountered were friendly and professional. The hotel was extremely clean and well-maintained in both the rooms and communal spaces. We didn't have time to take advantage, but there's a great happy hour deal daily, and there also were an array of holiday events taking place in the lobby and bar- we'd have loved to join in if time had allowed. We've been loyal to another Toronto hotel for a number of stays, but the Novotel is now likely to be a strong contender for future visits.

Definitely 4 stars. Great gym and pool area. Lots of conference or reception space. Room was good with great size bathroom. TV ok but more channels might help. Staff very friendly and bar staff excellent. Light snacks in bar are great for a late night snack. We had a great stay.

Very Nice With Room to Improve

The guest service person, Faithful, was lovely and helpful with suggestions. Our room was clean and modern. However, the bathroom, while clean and had plenty of towels, had paint peeling from the ceiling, dried grout on the surface of the sink, wallpaper peeling in areas on the wall. Turning on the shower was a bit of a learning experience. It seemed you had to turn the handle over many many times to get to the hot water setting, but it took a while to get hot water, and then it got to scalding and you had to reverse the handle to not get burned. There weren’t any drawers to put underwear and socks, although the room was spacious enough to accommodate a dresser drawer, we found the TV guide for channels very frustrating to use (we like to catch up on news or watch a little something before going to bed). Instead of a sequence of channel listing by channel number it was a grid of the station name so you had to click on that to go to the station to find out what was playing! Very irritating. The towels were somewhat stiff but there were plenty of them. Lots of outlets for plugging in electronic & digit devices. Somehow, we lost our guest WIFI access. The guest services person helped out by giving us access to the staff WIFI for the remainder of our stay. There was a water bottle refill station next to the icemaker on our floor. Just hope that the water and ice dispenser spouts are regularly sanitized!! The hotel is located very conveniently to the sporting venues, Union station, The Distillery District, The St. Lawrence Market, Hockey Hall of Fame, CN Tower, the Waterfront area. Plenty of eating options are nearby. We ate many times in The Distillery District, St. Lawrence Market, enjoyed familiarity of Earls and Joeys chains, Eataly is a 45 minute walk up Yonge Street which is quite gritty. A more pleasant walk is along Bay Street which is parallel to Yonge Street. We noticed that there is a restaurant and bar lounge in Novotel, but we didn’t experience these amenities, nor did we use the pool or fitness facility, so cannot comment. The bars Happy Hour was daily 4:00 pm-8:00 pm but can’t say if there was any food options either. Overall, we were satisfied enough to come back.

Great location on a quieter side street

This is a modern hotel that's clean and comfortable. It's a couple of blocks away from the St. Lawrence market and there are quite a few restaurants nearby. Union Station is a short walk - definitely recommend taking the express train to and from the airport instead of sitting in traffic. Service was great and the lobby restaurant had good breakfast options. There's a grocery store next door. Hotels in this area are pricey as is the Novotel but on the low end of expensive, if that makes sense. Recommended.
