Overnight family stay.

We stayed overnight during a road trip and always wanted to visit La Rochelle. The hotel is very central which comes with pros and cons. It is noisy because of the drunken ppl going out at night, not a problem for us as we usually go to bed late when travelling. The room is a bit hot and it is small, we had 2 rooms for 4. Super clean and practical. One of the staff didn’t speak English but was polite. Don’t be fooled, there is no parking on the premisses, you have to walk for about 10 minutes to reach the car park. We ate some complimentary croissants and had coffee at the reception. Water is available on glass bottles from reception. It is a great location to see the town.

We arrived after 3pm to be told that our room was not ready but would definitely be ready in no more than an hour. Not an issue as we wandered around town and our bags were stowed. Returned over an hour later but room still not ready. Said we would wait and help ourselves to coffee in the reception area but there was no water. Finally given our key card only to have to return to reception as it didn’t work. The room was tiny but cool and very comfortable beds. Breakfast was good. Check out was concerning as I gave our room number but the receptionist told me that I was wrong as it didn’t match our surname. Then she admitted I was right and informed that I was staying a second night. Considering I was checking out…? Anyway, I asked to settle parking for the old port car parking and the ticket I was given did not work, causing a stressful exit from the car park. The cleaning staff were working all hours and re to be commended.

I have submitted an earlier review. I can now compare another Ibis property. LAR was outstanding, from the welcome on arrival which was full of warmth and personality. I had a medical emergency and Mar, Marine and Leah stepped in to get me to hospital but more importantly to console and support my wife.Additionally the man and lady who serviced the morning breakfast were outstanding in providing al that was necessary for a wonderful meal. All staff had great focus, customer service attitudes

No aircon

The room was tiny and very hot. The manager said they don't put the Aircon on in May even though they had it on full blast in reception and when I showed him my booking with Aircon included he told me to go book another hotel, a 4 or 5 star hotel if I wanted Aircon. I couldn't believe how rude he was. It was 21 degrees in a tiny room facing the sun and he refused to switch the Aircon on.

Great location close to all cafés, restaurants and marina. Clean stylish room, comfy bed, good self service breakfast - though at busy times finding a table can be a problem. If you like your window open during the night expect some noise from the surrounding streets. Five minute walk to underground carpark with special hotel rate. Recommended.
