Nice hotel, but don't book the diner option

The hotel is quite nice and up to standard, but... When booking I took the option for a diner at €25 just like I did in 2024. In 2024 I was allowed to choose from the normal card and this was a fair deal with nice food. This year they had changed the concept and presented me a 'reduced card', with only cheap options (lettuce + ham + cheese kind of salads). This was definitely not value for money and made my stay a lot less agreeable. (On my way back north later this vacation, I used another Mercure in Orleans, they still have the old concept and it was a lot more enjoyable)

Great location but tired bedrooms

This is a great location with easy to access car park. Staff are friendly however the reception desk was under staffed, just one person handling check-ins/outs, answering thr phone. The lobby was clean and stylish however the bedroom and corridor on floor two was tired. There were bleach marks on the carpet both in the corridor and bedroom and the feel of the room is of “make do”. Not a warm feeling, very sparse in the way of soft furnishings, kettle but no milk, paper cups… On the positive, there was a fridge with two waters inside. Overall it looks like a hotel that was styled in the 80’s and needs to redone.

My standard overnight stop for several years. The restaurant has been refurbished and the food has improved. Some rooms have a view of the Loire Car parking is secure and it is a short distance to the peage.

The Customer is always Wrong

When we arrived at the Hotel Mercure Centre the check-in process was very convoluted and not only was our room not ready but they thought the booking was for room only, whereas it was half-board and, after checking something, they said that was fine. All went well at this hotel until the start of our second evening meal there. We had an evening meal on day one without a problem and also breakfast on day two. However, shortly after sitting down for dinner on the second evening, the head waiter walked over to our table and, in a very loud voice that everyone in the restaurant could hear, proceeded to tell us we had not paid to have dinner or indeed for breakfast either. We were quite stunned by his abrasive, loud, arrogant manner and the fact that despite us repeatedly telling him the hotel must have made a mistake, never at one point did he stop to consider this possibility but simply repeated himself. It got worse from there, as he was joined by a lady from reception who stood next to him and basically repeated what he had said. At no point during this exchange did they demonstrate an attitude of "the customer is always right", in fact it was the complete opposite. My wife was becoming visibly upset but still they would not accept what we were saying, made worse by the embarrassment of all the other diners looking at what was going on. We said we would get the booking paperwork from our room, which we took to the reception desk. At the point of doing so, the receptionist announced she had found the booking information on a system "in the background" and that we were, in fact, correct. So you might think that would have prompted an apology from both the receptionist and the head waiter, but no - he said "it wasn't our fault and it wasn't their fault!" Well, in actual fact it was entirely their fault. Still without an apology he said we could choose any 3 courses from the menu without additional cost, but by this time it was after 9pm so we simply chose our food from the half-board menu. We are both so incredibly disappointed by the behaviour and attitude of those members of staff and would have expected much more from a hotel such as the Mercure.

A very good Mercure - recommended !

This is a very good Mercure ! Ideally located for the city the hotel overlooks the Loire and the public areas are very attractive and the staff super-welcoming and helpful, especially Monsieur Le Chef who constantly circulated in his full regalia making sure all guests were enjoying their stay at the hotel - the food in the restaurant was very nice and reasonably priced, the service excellent and professional. Our bedroom was of typical Mercure standard but more than adequate for a peaceful and comfortable night's sleep - we had a small balcony overlooking the Loire and the busy road bridge taking traffic south over the river.
