Terrible treatment - scammed out of a room

Firstly, I hate writing bad reviews. Look at my profile and the rest of my reviews. Secondly, I’m an Accor silver member and always use Accor properties when staying in France, usually about 4-8 times a year. But I’m compelled to write this review as my wife and her friend were scammed out of the two rooms they’d booked by the desk staff. Our neighbour has recently survived cancer and had major surgery. As a treat my wife suggested she take her to Nice for a week. I travelled around the world on business largely using British Airways as my carrier and had a lot of Avios points, so we used them to pay for the trio for my wife and her friend. When booking via the British Airways Avios site, I saw the Mercure in Nice available in an excellent position on the seafront, and as a Silver Accor member and someone who stays in all their brands chose this for their stay. Upon arrival they were told their booking was for one double room not two double rooms. Despite the booking confirmation which they had with them clearly showing “2 x double room” - see photo attached to this review. I deliberately booked two double rooms as my wife’s friend has just got over major surgery and needs a double bed to herself to arrange pillows and certain way to sleep comfortably. When they queried this and explained the situation the hotel manager showed them an alternative- again just one room but this time with twin single beds. This was a) not the two double rooms booked and b) again unsuitable as after surgery our friend needed a bigger bed. So they had to make do in the one double room. They actually loved the hotel for its situation and facilities. But really Accor? Do your staff make a habit of scamming cancer survivors out of their bookings? Tell me - how did this happen?

The hotel boasts a prime location on the seafront along the Promenade des Anglais, offering easy access to the vibrant old town, characterized by its lively markets and picturesque streets. Adjacent to the serene Jardin Albert, it provides a scenic walkway to the bustling Place Massena. Conveniently, the Jean Medecin tram stop is a mere 10-minute stroll away, providing direct airport connections for just 1.80 euros, while Uber or Bolt rides are available for approximately 17 euros. Although the hotel's building stands as a prominent feature on the seafront, it occupies only the first three floors. The lobby, though compact, is efficiently designed with a cozy seating area. The first floor houses both the breakfast room and meeting spaces, which I did not utilize during my stay. My accommodation was a privilege room, offering both garden and sea views. The panorama was truly breathtaking, making each morning a delight. The room features a modest balcony, suitable for standing and enjoying the view, but too small for seating, likely due to the insulation requirements of the double doors leading to it. The bed, taking center stage in the room, ensures a restful sleep, despite a limited selection of pillows and bedside power outlets. A desk with an attached chaise lounge chair lends a distinctive touch to the room's decor. Amenities include a Nespresso machine, a fridge, and other standard conveniences. The bathroom is practical, equipped with a walk-in shower, albeit lacking a rain shower feature. Signs of wear and tear suggest the hotel is nearing the time for a subtle renovation. Yet, these minor imperfections do not detract from the overall comfort and spaciousness of the room. The Wi-Fi service is notably fast and dependable, with speeds around 50 Mbps. In comparison to other Accor-branded properties, this hotel stands out as a charming option, offering a unique blend of spectacular views, prime location, and comfortable accommodations.

I really liked the hotel, I got a sea view room, very spacious and with all the facilities, delicious breakfast, facing the Promenade des Anglais, we went to the pebble beach. This hotel was our base for exploring the Cote d'Azur.

I am so disappointed about this Mercure hotel !!!. This is not a 4 star hotel . The photos are faked . We booked the most expensive previlage room . The room is small and very old . The carpet is very dirty . The reception service is very bad . Only good thing is close to the beach .
