Very disappointed, not a great start to our holiday

Pretty disappointing. Had booked a superior room but there was nothing superior about it! Room facilities were very basic, there was only one extra pillow on offer, absolutely no view and the windows are screwed shut so no fresh air either and it’s very dark.

We booked this hotel on a last minute deal, however not sure I would have wanted to pay the full amount. The best of part of this hotel was the location.The location was ideal, steps away from the promenade des Anglais and a very short walk into old town Nice. There is tons to do near the hotel and there are plenty of transport links (bus and tram) near the hotel linking to other towns, such as Ezé. The front desk staff were also helpful and friendly and provided us with useful directions. We booked the basic room, and i'm sure the more expensive rooms would be lovely with the balcony views of Nice. However, our room was rather outdated, dark, and had a distinct damp smell. The bed was comfortable but I am not sure if you would want to stay in the basic rooms if you were tall as the ceilings are rather low. The air conditioning was also not very strong and so it could get very hot in the room. There was also not minibar or fridge available in the room. I would say if you book a basic room, the hotel is definitely more of a 3* hotel than a 4*.

Nice location and…..thats it. Want a quiet room, have to look at the courtyard i.e nothing but you can lice with that. Front desk is hit and miss some people are nice but some are straight up rude and unhelpful. Take for example a receptionist by the name of Diletta (at least she said thats her name) though she made sure to infrom us she’s italian as if thats a license to be rude. Asked to speak to reservation team she straight up said “no” as if it was up to her. When persisted said they are out for luch, at 2pm that is, from an hour wait it became 30min, she was saying anything hust to get rid of us (and there was nobody else in the lobby). Anyhow, got nowhere with Ditella and unfortunately Mercure lost us as a customer. We go to nice every year but now we r certain that 5 min further walk is worth it. Its a shame cause people go on vacation tomescape the daily aggravations but when thats is the first and last thing you experience on vacation just makes it not worth it. Try Meridien or another property or even better - airbnb. At least there u can use a fridge, have ice (there was none at mercure and it is 30’degrees all the time).

Good shower with shampoo and conditioner. Request third floor as the promenade is noisy. We love the location as it’s close to everything happening in Nice our disappointment was that we specifically booked a privilege sea view room 9 months before for a significant Anniversary but hotel denied it, despite the paperwork. Reception were poor in recognising it and not the least bit apologetic.

Basic room but very clean and quiet. Comfy beds. Hot shower but not much pressure. Able to adjust the air con in the room yourself which was good. Yummy breakfast with lots of choice. Helpful reception staff. Great central location. Recommend Rhul Plage beach club across the way.
