Planning a family weekend break in Bristol? You won’t be stuck for things to do in this beautiful southwest city. Situated on the River Avon, Bristol boasts beautiful rivers, quaint cobbled streets and traditional English pubs to enjoy.

If you’re looking for days out to entertain the kids, you’ll find lots to do in and around the city too! From aquariums to zoos and stately homes there’s no shortage of great family days out in Bristol. Discover three of the most unmissable family experiences in the city here.

1. Bristol Aquarium

First on our list of unmissable family experiences is Bristol Aquarium. Fun, educational and fascinating for all ages, the Aquarium makes for a perfect family day out on a weekend break in Bristol.
With colourful displays of sea life from around the world, you can spot everything from rays, seahorses, puffer fish and even sharks! One of the best places to view the amazing marine creatures and colourful coral reefs up close is the Aquarium’s amazing underwater tunnel, where animals of all sizes swim right over your head.
As well as letting you experience the wonders of the underwater world, Bristol Aquarium is also the only UK aquarium to have its own botanical house, where you can walk amongst exotic plants and stunning flowers. Tickets to the Aquarium vary in price according to age, but there are lots of family deal available and 10% off when you buy online! Check out prices here.

2. Ashton Court Estate

Next up on our list and just ten minutes outside the city centre is the stunning Ashton Court Estate. A Grade I listed mansion situated on an 850-acre estate of grass and woodlands, this beautiful historic park is well worth a visit on a weekend break in Bristol.

The mansion itself is open from Wednesday to Sunday, though the extensive parklands are an ideal space for the kids to run around and explore every day from 8am. As well as being a picturesque spot for a memorable picnic, the estate is home to roaming deer, mountain biking trails, a golf course and even a mini railway! Once you’ve explored the grounds, stop by one of two cafes to rest your legs and enjoy a delicious bite to eat.

3. Bristol Zoo Gardens

Make time during your family weekend in Bristol to visit Bristol Zoo Gardens, the fifth oldest zoo in the world! With animals great and small, beautiful gardens and activities to enjoy, the zoo is a fantastic day out for the whole family.

From aquariums, bug worlds and butterfly forests to lion, penguin and gorilla enclosures, there are so many amazing things to see and learn about. The zoo also features an adventure playground and activities centre for the kids to monkey around in, as well as daily talks and feeding times to enjoy.

Check out what’s on before your visit and make sure you don’t miss any big events. Entry prices for the zoo vary throughout the year – we recommend buying online where to save up to 25%.
