This was my fourth trip to the Fairmont Orchid in the last 10 years. The property is truly a magical place. The grounds are gorgeous...pool and beach are never too crowded. However this may be our last trip. It just feels like food and service have gone downhill. We have always struggled to get wait staff to be responsive on the upstairs open air spot. Even so, it used to be our favorite place to relax before and after dinner because of the mellow live acoustic music with that Hawaii vibe. Unfortunately on the second day of our stay the musician said he had just been informed that they were discontinuing music there now. The front desk confirmed that and said they had just abruptly found that out as well . The signs all over the property advertise live music nightly up there. Not anymore:( The breakfast buffet is great. The pool bar food is pretty good. However we tried the high end Asian restaurant last year and the food was overpriced and not good. This time we made a reservation at Browns Beach House our last night just to hear some mellow live music and sit outside. The atmosphere was fabulous. However when you spend over $400 with a tip for two people to eat you expect fantastic food. Out pork belly appetizer was like flavorless tough leather. Couldn't finish it. Our entrees were just average at best. Definitely not worth the price, so we won't be going back there. With the limitations on good restaurants , the loss of the live music atmosphere and the spotty wait staff service I think sadly it's time to find another place to try when we come back in 2028

Other than room service our first night, it was a fantastic stay. The coleslaw sandwich with a bit of corned beef (Reuben) and chicken broth with macaroni (chicken noodle soup) were two of the worst things I’ve been served in a very long time. Fortunately it was a very isolated incident. If not for that, I’d have given you a 10.

We really liked our stay at this hotel. The location is great. Parts of it felt outdated. The TVs don’t have any smart capabilities- which is pretty insane for the price per night. It would be nice to be able to stream something or at least chrome cast onto the TV. And, pay-per-view movies weren’t working, so basically you could only watch cable TV. The food options were expensive and service was slow. It would be nice to have one more quick service or fast casual dining option. Also, the front desk staff wasn’t the friendliest which didn’t make a great first impression. The valet staff was incredible. The pool was nice and clean. Housekeeping was immaculate.

The beach, the pool, waterfalls lovely. Activities: pasta making, soap making, makeup application drop in, hula lesson, lei making, free smores! free Ice cream hour all great. though it all had to be booked online and that was painful. not a good interface and not friendly for those 60 and up who aren't tech savvy. Part of the reason I paid $$$ to stay at this hotel because I wanted a good concierge who knows the restaurants and can get me in. But I was booked at the hotel restaurant for 2 nights. I don't eat at the same restaurant twice when there are LOTS of other options out there. When I asked for help booking dinner 1 night, one of the concierge's said "just book it on opentable." Perhaps they only care on things they get commission on. It's impressive that you have 3-4 concierges but maybe you need more. And you need ones that know the local restaurants and can book things they don't get commission for. The Mauna Lani had fireworks, why didn't you? The cleaning staff were all very nice. The spa was GREAT. (free water, snacks, makeup samples, hair supplies) though the spa without walls is a good idea, it's a little bit hot and making the masseurs wear backpacks is silly.
