Top places to celebrate Christmas in July around Australia

Bust out your ugly Christmas jumper and head down to one of these top Christmas in July destinations around Australia.

Jealous that the northern hemisphere gets a white Christmas and we don’t? Then Christmas in July is the answer to all your prayers. If you love carol singing, roast dinners, log fires and mulled wine, then you are sure to go weak at the knees reading these top places around Australia where you can have a jolly ol’ time this July.

Yulefest in the Blue Mountains

When: Throughout June, July and August
Where: Blue Mountains, NSW
Christmas in July celebrations are a staple in the Blue Mountains’ calendar and they surely won’t disappoint. Set off on the drive from Sydney and be greeted with tonnes of venues offering log fires, Christmas fare, singalongs and maybe even snow… if you’re lucky!
The Fairmont Resort Blue Mountains puts on a whole glorious month of Christmas celebrations throughout July. Enjoy a sumptuous buffet in the beautifully Christmas-themed Jamison’s Restaurant with a selection of festive favourites. As well as surprise visits from Saint Nick himself – but only if you’ve been nice this year.

Winter Wonderlights

When: 30th June – 22nd July
Where: Sovereign Hill, Ballarat, VIC
If you’re in Melbourne this July and think you can spend the month without experiencing Christmas in July cheer, then you’re wrong! Winter Wonderlights is back at Sovereign Hill for July, and while you may need to rug-up in warm clothes, it’s well worth the frostbite for the spectacular light show come evening. Watch as the whole main street is transformed by sparkling grand-scale Christmas projections that dance across the buildings’ façades. There’s also plenty of hands-on activities for both the little and big kids, including theatre programs, faux snow falls and delicious Christmas treat-making.

A night in the “Snow Dome” at The Golden Ox

When: 20th July
Where: Margate, QLD
Gather your friends and family and book a table at this year’s Snow Dome at The Golden Ox Restaurant. Honestly, what could be better than spending an evening in a SNOW DOME! Think winter wonderland gone mad with enough decorations to fill a football stadium. The real star of the evening though is the mouth-watering three-course festive menu – food, glorious food!
Choose between mouth-watering roast Turkey breast or sumptuous roast pork loin for main. Dessert rounds off the meal with drool-worthy steamed plum pudding or Pavlova. Once the dining is over, enjoy the evening entertainment of live music and dancing. If you’re looking for somewhere to stay while visiting Margate, Brisbane is less than an hour away.

Winterworld

When: 23rd June – 15th July
Where: Fremantle, WA
Winter is coming. And this year’s Winterworld, hosted in the heart of historic Fremantle, is sure to be a big hit.
Celebrating everything winter, this special event has plenty of activities for adults and kids of all ages. Enjoy everything from Australia’s largest open-air ice-skating rink to artificial snow and the ever-popular snow-pit – where you can (attempt to) build snowmen or start a ‘playful’ snowball fight.
This year, the festival has a new addition… winter markets! Packed-full of warm cosy seating around smouldering fire pits. There’ll be cabins to watch ice-skaters go by and stalls selling Christmas treats, drinks and winter wares. So gather up your friends or family, rug-up and head down to Fremantle for this marvellous festival.

Harvest Launceston Farmers’ Market

When: Market date TBC

Everyone loves a market but have you ever been to a Christmas themed market? If not, you’re missing out and you need to head down to the award-winning Harvest Launceston Farmers Markets this July. It’s a Tasmanian feast of food, fun, Christmas cheer and more food!
