5 great family friendly activities in Brisbane

Are you planning a holiday in the wonderful city of Brisbane? Don't be afraid to bring the kids along, because there are plenty of family-friendly activities in this Queensland city. Here are five things to do as a family that are sure to make your break fun-filled and interesting

The Wheel of Brisbane

There's nothing like a ride on a Ferris Wheel to get kids excited - and the Wheel of Brisbane is one of the best you'll find!  Head to the Parklands of Brisbane's South Bank to take a ride on this thrilling contraption that provides stunning views of one of the city's best-loved precincts.  See Brisbane's skyline and river glittering from stunning heights, as you head up and around in a fully-enclosed and air-conditioned gondola that can seat up to six adults and two children. The views from almost 60 metres above-ground are absolutely breathtaking.

City Botanic Gardens

In central Brisbane there is a beautiful garden and playground complex perfect for a family day out. Enter the City Botanic Gardens along Alice Street, George Street or Eagle Street, or walk from Southbank over Goodwill Bridge. Enjoy large open green spaces, plenty of beautiful trees and views of the Brisbane River. There are a range of great activities for kids, including a sandbox, climbing walls, musical chimes, spinning wheels, speaker tubes, see-saws, swings and much, much more.  Bring along a ball to kick around or simply wander the paths exploring the plant life. There's a whole day's worth of fun on offer.

Alma Park Zoo Brisbane

Who doesn't love cuddly koalas and cute kangaroos? Kids certainly love getting up close and personal with some of Aussie's beloved critters and creatures, and there's no place quite like Alma Park Zoo for it. From Australian favourites to baboons, red pandas, alpacas, crocs and plenty more, the zoo is a great place to while away the day.  Have an extra special experience by booking an 'animal encounter'. With a koala encounter, for example, you get to hold and cuddle a furry koala during feeding time and you'll get a photo to remember it by. Then there's the ring-tailed lemur experience, where you get the chance to hand-feed and play with these gorgeous animals.  At the Alma Park Zoo, there's something for everybody of any age to enjoy.

Yatala Drive-In movies

About a 30-minute drive from central Brisbane you'll find a classic, American-style drive-in movie complex. Enjoy a night beneath the stars watching an old favourite film or a brand new blockbuster. There's a strong community feel, with families snuggling up with mattresses, blankets and sometimes even pyjamas to enjoy catching a great flick.  Check out the candy bar for your traditional movie snacks such as popcorn, hot dogs and choc-tops and settle in for a great night out.  With a casual, relaxed and inclusive atmosphere, you and the kids can truly unwind and enjoy the experience.

DreamWorld Theme Park

Brisbane is home to a number of theme parks including DreamWorld. Drive for about half an hour along the Pacific Motorway and you'll arrive at this fun-filled destination, which makes for the perfect day out with the kids. Brave some of the hair-raising upside-down, twisting and turning rides, or opt for some of the tamer options - it's up to you! There are attractions and rides appropriate for children of all ages.  Check out the a number of different and exciting themed areas and get ready for an adventurous day to remember. With so many wonderful family-friendly activities on offer, Brisbane is a great destination for a holiday with the kids. Which activity will you tackle first?
