Typical Ibis hotel, not far from the cathedral, public transport, restaurants and bars. Should you want to walk, the Rocks is about 30 minutes away. Rooms are clean, well equipped as all Ibis rooms are. Check-in/out you do yourself. The staff (also managing the little shop) will call you a taxi if needed.

OK, this hotel is an Ibis, so obviously one can't expect a Pullman-level service from it... but still, some things should work a lot better. I got woken up by the central fire alarm at midnight - judging by the other reviews, this seems to be a regular occurrence. I did notice a very prominent sticker on the microwave warning guests in English and Chinese not to use the microwave for making toast or cooking (Huh? What kind of guests stay there?) and that there was a $1,800 fine if fire brigade had to attend. I've stayed in many different hotels in Sydney and never seen a warning like that. If microwaves in the rooms do get regularly misused in that way, why put them in the room in the first place? Despite the fact that I got a late 2 pm checkout (as an Accor Gold member) and my room card was programmed to work until 2 pm, housekeeping barged into my room at 10 am and then the manager-on-duty started knocking on my door half an hour later - apparently both were unaware of my checkout time. Makes one wonder how this hotel is being run and whether the left and right hand communicate with each other. Overall, the level of service was reminiscent of a backpacker hostel. I wouldn't say that the place was so dreadful that I would never stay there again, but it certainly will be my last choice in the future, despite good location and low price. I've already booked a different (and 50% more expensive) hotel for my next trip - I would rather pay more and get decent service.

Location is great, that's about it.

Very average hotel. Check in was a nightmare. Not enough staff although they did their best. Room was small and over priced even for Sydney. Empty bottles littered the front on a Saturday night. Location is good. Breakfast Meh. Reasonably clean but very dated. If you just need somewhere to sleep it's ok.

Very impressed with Ibis Styles Sydney Central. As a central location for an extended family visit to Sydney from North Queensland, Northern NSW, and Illawarra, ages 14 to 80 years, we loved it. Walking distance to Museum Train Station, Hyde Park, and Australian Museum to see the Ramesis exhibition of ancient Egypt. From Museum Station we travelled to Circular Quay, to Opera House, The Rocks, Ferry to Luna Park, and to other stations for CBD, and Bondi Beach. Connecting rooms were well priced and a reasonable size, with decent size bathrooms. Not luxury, but clean, comfortable, and well located. Would stay there again.

I stayed here recently and found that, overall, it was as efficient an experience as ever. The room wasn't especially memorable but it was clean and spacious and more than 'did the trick' for an overnight stay with an early morning departure. The shower and bathroom area were also of a very good standard.
