Mercure Newcastle 4 estrelas

Overnight business trip accompanied by my wife, who was keen to explore and get some beach time in. Hotel is quite central and convenient if you have a car. Parking was free, on site and reasonably secure . Close enough to downtown but not deep enough to get stuck. I chose the automated check in as there were a few people in front at check-in. Worked really well with two keys dispensed, after confirming the booking. As others have noted the hotel is a little dated and the fresh paint and new wall hangings can't cover a lack of power outlets and dated but functional bathrooms - please provide the non-slip mats without request in the shower/baths. Pool area fits the general vide but was cool and refreshing.

I understand that Mercure have only recently taken over this hotel, but this is far from Mercure standard that I have come to expect from staying at their other hotels. Upon arrival I had to find some one to check me in - wandered around reception and the cafe/restaurant area for a few minutes, stood waiting, finally someone appeared from behind the reception desk. Parking $16 and is limited - upper carpark seems to be out of action (structural issues??) and elsewhere spaces are very tight even for a mid-size car. Upon entry to my room, I was extremely disappointed. The decor and general condition of the room was tired, dated, and worn. Allow me to break this down further: Towels were threadbare and felt damp like they had not fully dried before being folded and placed in the bathroom. The bathroom was in desperate need of a deep clean, but really it actually needed gutting and replacing. Long hairs everywhere throughout bathroom, floor appeared to not have had a mop over it for quite some time, towel rails hanging off the wall, holes in tiles/walls that had been patched over several times, pump bottles with broken pumps, vents above shower full of dust. Bathroom actually needs a proper renovation. Airconditioning unit whistled/buzzed all night (hard to describe - almost sounded like it had crickets in it) which drove me mad. Opening a window on a hot night didn't cut it, and the street noise below made that even worse. All surfaces in the room felt dirty/greasy - like it hadn't had a proper deep clean in a long time. I actually personally felt dirty the whole time I was in the room and kept washing my hands after touching anything. Stupid plastic/recycled material coffee cups in rooms instead of a good old fashioned mug. They were dirty and the bottom looked worn/flaky from teaspoon stiring or scrubbing. Please, just go back to a porcelain/ceramic mug!! Couldn't locate powerpoints beside the bed or behind bedhead or sidetables. which was very inconvenient for personal device charging. overall there seemed to be a lack of powerpoints. between my partner and I to charge our phones, smart watches and laptop/ipad, we had to unplug microwave and lamps and also use the powerpoint in the bathroom. The bed was VERY short sheeted - bottom of sheet was above our shins. at 11:30pm I literally stripped the bed and re-made it myself. The location is of the hotel is poor, nearby nightclubs, gentlemans clubs, pubs and near a busy road with lots of street noise - did not feel safe walking around at night. I travel regularly for work and have stayed in beautiful hotels and also roadside pubs. This hotel did not meet my expectations at all and should not be rated a 4 star hotel! 2.5 stars at best. Lift your game, Mercure. Will not return.

Went for one night stay at this hotel in Newcastle and the experience was not pleasant. The building is really old and needs a lot of refurbishing. Pros: - Lovely staff, always happy to help! Cons: - One of the windows in the room didn’t close because the screws to hold the handle lock were missing. Upon a call to front desk, one of the staff turns up with a sticky tape and a hangar in her hand :) - The bath tub plug was missing, so I called the Front desk again and got the plug very quickly, was also told to release the water very slowly otherwise the water comes back up from the drains, was really surprised - Air conditioner was not working, so another call to the Helpdesk and the staff took my key card and combined with another keycard and now the Air Conditioner was able to work finally - We got told we got a king bed but in the middle of the night I found myself getting stuck in the middle of the mattress which was basically 2 single mattresses put together without zip, just with bedsheets. Couldn’t sleep that night. - Breakfast is fairly basic for a vegetarian and quite small, didn’t find much variety of foods Some pictures attached.

not a very pleasant experience. walked in put our bags down to discover hair on the tiles, in the fridge and on the beds, half used toilet paper rolls on the hooks still. we called staff to discuss the issue they were very caring and re cleaned it for us. they overall set up of the hotel was not very welcoming very gloomy and dark

First time staying at the Mecure Accor Newcastle, formerly the Travelodge Newcastle for our 3 night stay. Smooth check in, helpful reception staff and comfortable bed and furnishings in our room. Delicious buffet breakfast at the hotel dining room and we ordered room service on one of the nights we stayed which was easy ordering through an in room app. Parking was paid and next to the accomodation. Will happily rebook.
