Comfortable overnight stop

We stayed at this Hotel on a Road trip north. It’s in the suburb of Charlestown in Newcastle along the old Pacific Highway. Room was comfortable and spacious with a renovated bathroom. Very comfortable bed and a large lounge and dining area. The bathroom was renovated tastefully and had a lovely rainfall shower. We had dinner in Madison’s restaurant which was very good and lots of menu choices . Cheap drinks too. We also had breakfast there the next morning and it was up there on my list of Hotel breakfasts . Cooked to order egg if you like (I had poached). Lovely well presented fruit and yoghurt and cereals and some nice pastries and good range of bed . Hotel was in an affordable price range and I would consider again for one of my road trips . It is not within walking distance of other shops or restaurants so bear that in mind if you don’t want to eat in house . I would through the restaurant on site is really good .

Filthiest carpets I have seen in a hotel. Restaurant staff were good but front desk was confronting and disconnected. Attempted to charge me for $34 breakfast despite booking an Included breakfast rate. No apologies. Then attempted to charge 3% credit card fee when accors own booking says maximum is 1.4%. Regarding your comments about the carpet, we do conduct regular professional deep cleans and have reviewed the photo you attached. We identified a small stain in our upstairs hallway – a high-traffic area – and appreciate you bringing this to our attention. It is being addressed as part of our ongoing upkeep. The rubber seal you referred to is located at our back 24-hour access door and, when zoomed in, may appear out of place. We are also reviewing this area to ensure its presentation aligns with our standards. We apologise that your breakfast-inclusive rate was not correctly recognised by our system during check-in. We’re glad our team was able to rectify this, but regret any inconvenience it may have caused. In terms of card surcharges, we strive to keep these as low as possible and only charge what the merchant charges us, depending on the card type used. We are sorry that Accor has incorrectly included a reference to a 1.4% surcharge with your booking, our higher surcharge for AMEX reflects that AMEX charge us a higher fee when that card type is used. We are following up with Accor in relation to them including this note on your booking as it may apply to some of their managed properties with different banking arrangements. Despite this, we understand that clarity at the time of payment is important and will continue to ensure this is clearly communicated. Lastly, we’re disappointed to hear that your interaction with our front desk didn’t meet your expectations. Hotel south of Newcastle but driving distance to beaches and walking distance to major shopping centre. Staff very helpful lent us umbrella as raining. Restaurant was great so impressed we had dinner there twice in 3 nights would definitely recommend

We like Newcastle for short relaxing getaways & have always stayed at The Mercure, the rooms are 3+ & the beds & pillows are so comfortable & staff are fabulous, should we ever have a problem or issue, it is always rectified immediately, the food in the Madison restaurant is excellent and we were so looking forward to one of their amazing pizzas on our last visit but alas, due to their popularity, they had run out (devastated), however substitutions were lovely. Thank you April.

Good Friday stay

We booked at very short notice and arrived on Good Friday. The receptionist was run off her feet tending the bar, looking after the front desk and more. The restaurant was closed but they took room service orders. The chef deserves a medal! The meal was quite good and he had to cook it and deliver it to our room himself. Otherwise, the Privilege room was large and well equipped. Nice outlook. Outdoor parking. Accor status welcome drink policy is perfect. Breakfast was excellent and the chef came out regularly to top things up and offer to cook eggs to order. Great for a small dining room. The dining room is fresh and airy with a nice view over the pool. Avoid room 229 - it has the vent from the kitchen going through it which creates noise and kitchen smells.
