Disappointing Experience at Mercury Penang

Our stay at Mercury Penang was a series of frustrations. From the moment we arrived, the staff were unhelpful, and our room was changed without any valid explanation. The check-in process was disorganised, and the staff's indifference was confronting. Our staff member, (Nair or similar), seemed to be in need of some serious customer service training. A simple request for toilet paper took 30 minutes. I had to go downstairs myself, and the lady at the counter responded, "I have already called housekeeping," and continued "working" on her computer until I re-insisted she might be able to help. Seriously, this level of service was unacceptable. As a platinum member, I was supposed to be provided with VIP internet access, but instead, I was given the regular one. I only noticed this upon checkout when I saw it at the counter. The internet connection was dreadful, had to pay for my own roaming data the whole time adding to the cost and disappointment. Our two-day stay at Mercury Penang was a negative experience, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. In contrast, our stay at Mercure Langkawi was a pleasant experience, marked by friendly and well-trained staff who ensured our comfort throughout our visit. This comparison highlights that our negative feedback for Mercury Penang is based on actual service issues and not personal bias. And even so, literally doubt I will book at any Mercure again after the last two Mercure experiences (Nusa Dua being worse).
