FILTHY ROOM POOR HYGIENE

The room allocated to me seemed like one that had been removed from their reservation system owing to poor condition (my surmise) but was released for me as the hotel was fully booked. When my room was "ready" I proceeded to entering my room only to find a tradesman in the room who appeared to be taking an inventory on repairs to the room (again my surmise). The room looked like it hadn't been lived in nor maintained in a while. A gentle wipe on some surfaces revealed dirt and dust. The worst place was the bathroom which was full of moulds, tiles which were loose, and grout which has come off. It looked gross, filthy and unhygienic. As an Accor Plus member, I was expecting a welcoming note from the resort manager which I didn't receive, unlike a few months ago when I first stayed there. The welcome amenity put together with haste, unlike the first time I stayed there when it was well presented with a welcome note. Little things matter. I booked 3 rooms and when my guests gave me feedback regarding the condition of their rooms (which were also in poor condition), I was apologetic to them and asked them to put up with their rooms as there were no other rooms available and to look out their windows to enjoy their sea views, as that is the only good thing I can say about the rooms. There are many choices of hotels around the world. I will not stay at Mercure Penang Beach again.

As a frequent guests, notice the ala carte and Buffet breakfast service drop. Latest stay observation, noodle station (run out of gas), should replace with induction cooker. And soup wrongly lable tomyam as hokkian soup.(same mistake from my last visit). Green vege and meatball no longer serve in noodle station. To have local food manu eg nasi lemak, hokkien mee. Used to have curry chicken with rice, my favourite. Now no longer available.

Beautiful sea view hotel

Hotel is nicely located with beautiful sea view, hotel staff are friendly and helpful except not enough staff at front desk especially during time when many were checking in. Rooms are nice and spacious except the bathroom sink was a bit too high for Asians. The filtered tap was good but because there wasn’t any bottled water, would hv been good if additional glasses were given instead of just cups in the room
