Good value for money with a few downsides

This is a good city hotel to use as a hub when exploring Tokyo. Modern style, welcoming staff. I would have given this a rating of 4 if the following two points would not have been observed: 1. Air quality: The rooms feels a bit „dusty“, which is strange. We first thought this is just a consequence of the dim lighting, but there‘s clearly something in the air at any point in time. It might originate from the carpet which could use some deep vacuum cleaning. 2. Breakfast crowds: Even though the hotel advises that breakfast is very busy between 8-10 and less so between 7-8, we observed that timing doesn‘t really matter. We may have been there during the peak of high season (Sakura in full bloom) and a bit unlucky sharing the hotel with a huge Italian travel group, but queuing for 10 minutes to get a coffee is too much even for a 3-star hotel. Summary: Value for money is ok, depending on your travel budget you might want to consider options though.

The hotel is not far away from Kyoto station, but not very close. Room is nice but not excellent. Breakfast is ok but not more. The hotel gets groups and is makes the atmosphere sometimes like a train station. There is a bus station in the rear of the hotel that makes it very convenient

This is a beautiful hotel near Kyoto station and off the main road. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The hotel is clean. The downside is that the customer service is poor and it is always crowded in the lobby and they are slow to help people. The check in process was overly laborious. One evening I asked for help getting a dinner reservation for the following evening. The person helping me was lovely then as he was helping me proceeded to answer the phone and carry on with a conversation for 10 minutes not even acknowledging I was still standing right in front of him. I eventually left because it seemed like whatever was on the phone was more important than me standing right there who he had been helping. At least saying something like the phone call is important and could he get back to me would’ve been lovely, but to just leave me standing there as he carried with the phone conversation rubbed me the wrong way.

good for groups but not for individuals who are in Kyotp for business

Mercure Kyoto Hotel seems to be a very good hotel for groups but unfortunately not for individuals who are there for business. When I arrived, I noticed that my room had a table but no chair. I asked for a comfortable chair in my room, explaining that I had to prepare work for the university every late afternoon and evening. Their reply was that they would ask the manager, but nothing happened. The next day I asked again for a chair in my room, and a little later a lady brought me a folding chair, probably used by children to take a shower, which was not suitable for me as I am 1.85m tall. The next day I asked again at reception for a chair, this time to someone who looked more senior, the answer was the same, he would ask his manager, but no chair came! When I went for breakfast or dinner, staff always wanted me to sit with a group, I explained that it was too noisy, they let me know that they were not happy with my request. It was only after almost a week at the last dinner and breakfast that the staff realised that I was not part of any group.
