Clean and beautiful Hotel

I stayed here for 7 nights and am going to be 100% honest from my experience. First of all, the hotel staff were terrific, they bent over backwards to make our stay as pleasant as possible. Santiago, the front desk attendant was nice enough to give us an additional 2 hours to check out since our flight was 12am which I really appreciated. There was also another gentleman who's name I did not get, who kept bringing me cold water to drink when waiting for our UBER to arrive :) My room was a suite on the 13th floor with the most incredible view of any hotel I have ever stayed at (photos posted). I will never EVER forget that view. My room was clean, quiet and cool, just like I like it. Housekeeping staff were very nice and attentive. The Hotel WIFI was perfect, and the hallways smelled very nice - an indication to me of a very clean hotel! I used the gym once and it was ok. This hotel is directly connected to a HUGE shopping mall (El Tesoro Mall) which was ultra convenient, especially on departure day as I had many hours to kill before my midnight flight. There were rumors of a supermarket in the mall, however, I walked for an hour and never found it. That is how big this mall is! The rooftop heated pool was amazing despite the (ugly) pool of standing water that everyone had to cross to get on the deck, but oh the view... Also, there was no food or drink service at the pool that we could see which was strange. We had buffet breakfast 2 days which wasn't good (eggs were ice cold, no bacon, chicharron tough as leather, and oatmeal was like water) for around 80000 COP ($20 US) PP. The food in the rooftop restaurant not good either (steak was way undercooked and so salty we drank water for hours after). We felt all of the food was over-priced and wound up dining elsewhere most of the time. The hotel location is in El Poblado, very crowded, very busy, very safe, however, it started to get annoying to go anywhere because you could only go by UBER or taxi, there is no way to just walk out into the street. Trying to get in and out was slow moving and filled with traffic at times as well, through no fault of the hotel. I got the sense that this hotel, albeit beautiful and clean, was designed mostly for business travelers. Overall, the good definitely outweighs the bad here. This is a beautiful and clean hotel which I would definitely recommend to anyone who would ask my opinion if they should stay there.

Great Hotel but the Key Card Was a Problem

Very good hotel with a beautiful view. I stayed on the 12th floor and it was super comfortable. It’s the 4th time I’ve stayed here and almost everything was great. The only issue was that I had to go to the front desk more than 8 times to get my key card reactivated, since it’s eco-friendly or recyclable, it kept getting deactivated — sometimes more than twice a day during my 4-night stay. They should really look into this because it’s not convenient for guests, especially considering how much we’re paying, and none of the front desk staff offered a real solution. Other than that, everything was very good.

Second stay — and a huge disappointment

This was our second time at Novotel El Tesoro in Medellín, but sadly, it will be our last. The experience was disappointing from the very beginning. Our room had old, stiff towels and a poorly designed bathroom where water spilled everywhere due to an overly short shower curtain, making every shower uncomfortable. When we requested a room change, we were told it was only possible by paying nearly 300,000 COP extra per night, even though the rooms were supposedly identical, just on a different floor. The next day, we tried to extend our stay for one more night for a very important family reason (accompanying my 90-year-old father-in-law to early morning medical exams). Reception told us there was no availability, even though Expedia showed several rooms available at reasonable prices. When we mentioned this, staff said Expedia was “overbooked” and that the only option was to pay 4 million COP for two nights (about $1,000 USD), which was completely unreasonable, especially since online rates were still showing for less than half. In the end, we had to move to NH Collection Medellín, where we got a spectacular suite for $426 USD for two nights — a huge difference in quality and service. When we spoke with the Novotel manager, he apologized, but by then it was too late: we had already been forced to find another solution on our own. Sadly, we cannot return to or recommend Novotel El Tesoro after this experience. Medellín is known for its kindness and warmth, something we unfortunately did not find here.
