Great room but below par service

While the room was great (nice, clean, good views, large) the service was below expectations throughout (except for the golf staff). From missing replacing towels in the room, to not replying to any of my 5+ emails regarding my reservations. You need staff to let you in to the gym, your room key won't work. Same complications when wanting to enter the compound. Every time we'd need to go through registering ourselves at security gate. Surely, there must be a better way for hotel guests. Lastly, we paid for breakfast inclusive room but it doesn't make sense at all. You can only "eat" the value that you paid for as an extra for brekkie so every time we had two coffees and exceeded the 200ZAR allowance we had to pay extra. It just because a hindrance and too complicated. If you offer breakfast included then stop counting the pennies. Otherwise, it would have made more sense for us and to staff to just pay for what we eat every day. Feels like a great golf course but without the 4* hotel you expect.

We understand that requiring staff assistance for gym access and multiple security registrations can be frustrating. The hotel operates as a free-standing business on the estate. Being a guest in the hotel, hotel guests obtain the use of all facilities on the golf estate. Systems are not integrated; thus, the assistance of staff is required. We have and we will continue to review our procedures to find a more seamless solution for our guests. Additionally, we appreciate your feedback on the breakfast package. Our intention is to offer convenience and value, and we regret that the current structure felt restrictive. We do offer room only rates, which allows you to choose according to your own budget. We will certainly take your comments into account as we review our dining offerings to ensure a more enjoyable and hassle-free experience. Gorgeous resort with fabulous rooms.

This is a gorgeous property with 2 pools, tennis courts, golf course and a small bar/restaurant plus a much larger bar and restaurant area that was excellent. The rooms were spacious and very well furnished with a large bathroom and a bath with separate walk-in shower. A large balcony with lovely views was also fabulous. Overall, it was lovely, although we were perplexed why there was a full kitchen range and appliances but we were given a letter on arrival saying that none of this was working? It didn't affect us as we didn't intend to cook but it may affect others? The complex has access gate security and that's a bit of a pain to navigate each time you enter, where most places after the initial checks prior to check-in will let you through simply by showing your room key, here each time you re-enter you have to go through the whole process again. Irritating when you're on holiday and want to get on with your day. Another irritation was for some reason getting pool towels here was ridiculously difficult. On our first day, after unpacking etc we wanted to swim and unwind , we went to the smaller pool which was close to our room and asked for pool towels and were told they'd run out but he'd ask for some more....they never came. Day 2 at the larger pool, asked for towels and were told that they don't have them there, we have to get them from reception. So we go back over there, to be told they don't have any either! Gentleman on reception makes a call and 10 minutes later someone turned up with 2 towels. (What about the next guests?) It seems a hotel this big and this nice could easily sort this out? Are they really concerned that guests staying in this calibre of hotel are going to steal some cheap towels? Overall though this is a lovely hotel, with great facilities and a nice restaurant and bar set up and we would both return and recommend.

As part of this transition and following the Grading Council of South Africa’s requirements, self-catering facilities are no longer offered due to health and safety considerations. This is not the level of service we strive to provide, and we are addressing the issue to ensure a smoother and more efficient process for all our guests in the future. The Golf course is in great shape, well-manicured and lots of staff about keeping up the #4 rating in RSA. I noticed lots of walkers on the pathways during our round (we teed off at 07:50) and there are signs that no walkers are allowed between 07:00-19:00, which spoils the atmosphere. The clubhouse is well run, good bar facilities and good food served at the restaurant - keep it up! The sad part was the Padel courts - all bookings are full but many players do not pitch up to play (they should be a fine for not cancelling). We were not allowed to play even though there was no pitch at 1 session - very poor in my view.

Boondoggler Couples - TripAdvisor review

We really enjoyed our visit to the Pear Valley hotel. Location is good, 45 mins from the airport and 20 mins to the wine farms. We were there to play golf and thoroughly enjoyed the course. Our room was spacious and high quality with a lovely view of water with lots of ducks and birds around. We didn’t experience any of the difficulties mentioned about the gatehouse - entry and exit was easy. The main hotel restaurant has lots of different spaces and the varied menu worked at different times of the day. Breakfast was excellent, , sushi good for snacks or starters and lots of tasty mains. The restaurant staff were very friendly and good at what they do. Overall it was very good and would return for the hotel and the golf.
