poor unfriendly service

MaurizioGiuliano TripAdvisor review

I admit that my stay at the Mantis wasn't in the best of circumstances, as I was forcibly sent there to self-isolate during the 2020 coronavirus pandemic. However, my honest review isn't a good one. On the good side, the rooms are very good and free wifi is available in the rooms (albeit VERY slow), and the hotel is located perfectly in the centre of Jamestown. However, I feel that despite the restrictions, the hotel didn't treat its guests in the way expected from a supposedly luxury hotel. The only place to hang out outside the rooms was a rather dull terrace without any decoration or charm, no plants, nothing. Strict measures were put in place about when guests could go to the terrace, and about times to order food, etc. The rooms were never made -- not even after the restrictions were lifted. Staff was fine but not particularly friendly. On the plus side, the food is excellent, albeit not cheap.

Easy choice for top dollar

The Mantis is a beautiful new/renovated hotel with great service. If you want to pamper yourself with nice and very functional rooms, this is the place to stay on St Helena. The hotel also has one of the island's best restaurants, and during the peak tourism season it's necessary to book a table to ensure you get a seat. We stayed at the hotel with a group of friends, and it was a great base for all our activities. The front desk is very helpful and quick with organizing excursions or taxis, and inner courtyard has a nice terrace / shaded area for hang around in the afternoon or evening with friends. This place is probably the only international standard hotel on the island, and it's reflected in the room rates.

Beautiful hotel right by the water

We stayed at Mantis for 10 nights for a trip mainly for diving purposes. The hotel is in a beautiful and well kept traditional building, and the rooms are well equipped, large and modern. From what we could see, Mantis is the only hotel in Jamestown that would be considered very good by European and American standards, but of course - it's also quite pricey by St Helena standards. The staff is exceptional, the facilities are great, the food is very good - no hesitations to leave a recommendation for this place.

St Helena is an island of many contrasts from the cliffs along the coast to fern covered peaks in the interior. there is a rich diversity of landscapes which offers up a great choice of walks of varying difficulty. the charter fishing was very professionally run with an abundance of fish being caught across the range of fish species. the visibility in the water is fantastic, so snorkeling off the boat is a must. the history of the island is also fascinating and evidence of this is apparent everywhere you go. Saints are very friendly people and visitors are made to feel very welcome on the island.

Nicely restored hotel

This is the best hotel on St Helena. The rooms have been beautifully restored in the old building. Our suite was spacious, elegant and comfortable. The only negative was that the bathroom door handle was unattached on arrival and remained that way for 8 nights. It might have been nice if one of the staff making up the room had taken the initiative and arranged for it to be reattached properly! We had dinner a few times and in the main it was reasonable if not exceptional food. Very pleasant staff. Breakfast was also good but the service was very slow so leave plenty of time to enjoy it before going out. For several nights during our stay there was only 9 guests. We stayed for 8 nights in all, we thought it odd and unusual that with so few guests staying for over a week not once did the manager make any attempt to converse or connect with us. All in all a lovely stay in a beautiful room, very nice to be able to walk down to the sea after dinner each night, the hotel is very well placed in the town.
