Worst service from any hotel in Europe

The Manager was very unhelpful,rude,sarcastic and a very discredit to Accor Hotels. Food was virtually in edible and service was very poor. The waiting staff were only interested in the young men eating. We had to wait over an hour for our food. They did not care or come to see if we were ok only when we asked twice but the response was that it was happening. Actually the whole hotel staff attitude from booking was the worst in Europe I have ever had....and I took pictures. This was even after me contacting Acccpr customer care themselves who phoned the hotel on our behalf.

A quiet hotel needing a bit of a upgrade.

We stayed just one night as a stop over enroute. Arriving quite late we were quickly checked in which we were thankful for. On arriving in the room we found it pleasant and it looked clean, the room felt a little to warm for sleeping so we opened the windows and left them open all night as the room remained too hot. The hotel was quiet and peaceful overnight, we didn't notice any noise from other guests at all. The mattresses need replacing, both my husband and I felt the beds were really uncomfortable and we both woke with aches and pains. The bathroom had quite a bit of black mould on the grouting around the tiles in the bath area and the shower was broken but when we got it working we only got luke warm to cold water. Breakfast was served in the conference room due to wedding taking place in the restaurant. We felt the breakfast selection didn't respond to any dietary needs such as dairy or gluten free, there was no other milk or bread choice available and decaf coffee was of the instant variety not fresh coffee unlike the caffeinated version. We didn't see a single member of staff during breakfast to ask about dietary requirements. However the food we had was hot and fresh, the orange juice tasted more like squash. So it was OK for just one night if not disappointing but I wouldn't have wanted to stay any longer.

We stayed for one night whilst attending a wedding. From check in to checkout everything was perfect. Our room was suprisingly large and both room and bathroom were modern, clean and fresh. The fridge and safe were unexpected extras. Breakfast was plentiful, freshly cooked and tasty. Every member of staff we came across was helpful and friendly - a credit to the hotel.

Very helpful front desk staff. They were very helpful with every problem we faced. Thank you to Richard and Tom. Couldn’t get a taxi and Richard did everything to get us one as soon as possible as the previous taxi did not turn up.

Rooms (and furnishings in them) are a bit ‘tired’. With my previous stay, the air conditioning did not work, only blew out hot air; fine in winter but not in the summer. Being just off the M4 the location of the hotel is good. Service was very rushed. It is unlikely I would stay there again.

What a disappointment

The standard of cleanliness in the restaurant was not good even if we had not been in a pandemic. Tables were not being cleaned between guests. There was only 1 sanitising station evident in the hotel and this was at reception we were not advised that for the room to be serviced we needed to hang a notice on the room door and returned after being out on the first day of our stay to find the room had not been serviced. We didnot see any sign of a track and trace QR code anywhere in the hotel. All in all not what we expect from Mecure , compared to our other stays in Mercure hotels during the pandemic

On arrival in our room we were quick to realise that the sink didn't have a plug, leaving a gaping hole into which should something fall, would be lost. The manager did all that he could to find a replacement, unfortunately with little luck. He did say that he would would the right size the next day and all would be sorted. Bearing this in mind after a long journey and having unpacked we decided to remain in the room declining the opportunity to change rooms. The evening meal was served by the same person who greeted and welcomed us on arrival; he.had a good sense of humour and did all that he could to make us feel welcome, nothing was too much trouble for him. We enjoyed the various courses and the accompanying wine. Sleep did prove problematic, with the AC making a terrible rattling noise which continued for a long time even after it was switched off. The flush on the toilet didn't stop running automatically, so well after half an hour my husband managed to stop it. We realised that this would be a problem throughout our stay. Unfortunately, the lack of a plug continued to be a problem as the manager had not been to find a replacement the next day. It's these little things that have a negative effect on a stay. I cannot understand why no one had sorted out the room problems in the past. Not what I would have expected from a superior room. It is important to note that at all times staff at the hotel were polite and helpful.

Working in area so able to book a room, made clear due to COVID there was no breakfast or evening meal. First night was hot evening so windows opening in to courtyard (not a problem as bar was closed, when open is a problem as drinkers spill out into laid out seating till late) but windows opened over rattly refrigeration compressor.. too noisy to sleep so had to close windows, unfortunately window wouldn't close as workings hit frame... miserable night sleep. Second night 'realigned' mechanism and got it closed eventually, just in time for next room have a late arrival with banging door and a blinking baby wretching so another rough night, last night so knackered fell asleep :) on the good side as I left a night early they rebooked the booking for later in month, everything great thank you no complaints. Would stay again but remember to ask for outside looking room not over courtyard.

Perfectly nice hotel, just frustrating that whatever I have in my loyalty profile, or put on the booking as special requests, are just ignored - making the process a bit pointless. (This has happened before.) Nice breakfast, odd that they stock Marmite but hide it away and only bring it out if you ask for it.

Hearing way too high!

The radiator in my room was on full. Even though it was cold outside it was way too hot in the room. The radiator valve did not work. I had to sleep with window open just so the room was a bearable temperature

Breakfast very good. Staff very friendly efficient and courteous. Room not good as air conditioning machine outside window made a noise all night, possibly better rooms than this one. Restaurant evening meal Average Bar service excellent

Beautiful Countryside location!

The location is beautiful and what a English country side should be. The grounds and the hotel itself is very beautiful and the day we arrived there were 3 weddings. The location is only good if you have a car and the rooms are big and facilities etc very comfortable. The staff are friendly and breakfast is well attended and good spread of English Breakfast. There is nothing to complain about on this facility. The only complain I have is that through out Italy, Austria, Swiss and UK we stayed with Mercure and IBIS and each recognized the loyalty program customers. Each had a welcome letter and also a welcome drink. This was the only hotel that did not provide a welcome drink. In other Accor hotels, even the IBIS hotels made the effort of providing extra welcoming snacks on top of welcoming drinks and letter. This hotel does not recognize platinum members. The Accor Loyalty program is not really active world wide and inconsistent from country to country

This is the second time my wife and I have stayed at this Hotel and on each occasion we were very pleased. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful, the food was very good and reasonably priced. The rooms were clean and comfortable and parking was very easy.

This hotel is worth everone one of it's four and a half stars....from the staff at reception through to the ladies that clean the rooms..... professional, friendly and courteous. Thank you.... Our room was very comfortable, clean and large for a hotel room. The bed was very comfortable and the pillows were great. Our lunch was delicious and so was breakfast....Highly recommnend this hotel.

I stayed for one night at the new West Grange Mercure...and was very impressed! The car location is very convenient on the A4, the hotel easy to find (but back from the road) with easy car parking and clean and newly decorated rooms. The staff were amazing! Fast and convenient check-in, I got directions for a running route, and the bar and restaurant service was very efficient with what seemed to be quite a small number of friendly staff. Much recommended and I shall stay again!

Scenic Hotel..... some quirks

Stayed here one night on a stopover visit to nearby Highclere Castle. Located in a peaceful countryside setting with nice views. Free parking. It was very quiet when we visited, only a handful of guests. Reception and restaurant staff were friendly and helpful. Room was comfortable and clean but could hear our neighbouring guest talking loudly on his phone through the wall!. The bathroom had odd "big sized" chunky fittings including a deep high rimmed bath that might be a struggle to get in and out of for the less able. Breakfast was fine with a selection of cereals, fruit and hot food with an option of eggs cooked to order. Overall a relaxing and enjoyable stay.

A Good base for visiting Family and Friends in West Berkshire

Visit West Berkshire , Newbury regularly to be near to Family for visits, family events etc. In the past have used other Accor hotels in the area . Found this property recently through my Accor club account as it has recently joined the Accor group of hotels part of Mercure Brand. Was good value for money and had rooms available for a planned visit . After arriving and checking in found I needed to extend booking to an extra room and get extra pillows, bedding etc. for a family member who had been injured in an accident. All the staff involved at the Hotel were extremely helpful in getting us a suitable room , all the extra bedding and making flexible arrangements for breakfast for the accident victim. Thank you to you all for your care and attention and going the extra mile. Therefore , for this high level of customer service to a family in need of some help I would thoroughly recommend this Hotel .

Hotel on the edge of Thatcham. Easy to get to, plenty of car parking onsite and with beautiful countryside behind for nice walks along footpaths. The staff are very helpful and welcoming. Rooms were a good size with nice bathrooms.
