Tired and Run-Down Property, with Sub-Standard Service

Took a risk and booked this unknown property for an August 2022 stay. The website touted "Newly refurbished", which I fell for. In truth, the lobby and public areas have been recently done and are some of the nicer ones in this neighborhood. The location of the property can't be beat. A short walk from Oahu's most exclusive, shopping malls; and, a short walk to one of the most beautiful beaches on the south shore of Oahu, Ala Moana. Parking: The parking lot is substantially undersized for the size of the hotel. Over the five days I stayed there the lot was frequently out of space to park. Even though you pay an additional $30-40/night for parking. The spaces are tight and difficult to navigate into, because of the terrible layout of the lot. We had a new door-ding or scratch on our rental vehicle doors almost every morning, due to the close proximity of other vehicles. Check-In: You will likely experience a 45-60 minute check-in line. When we arrived, there were seven front-desk kiosks operating with friendly staff. We were the sixth guest in line for check - in. Including the short line, our check-in experience took 25 minutes. Throughout our stay there, we witnessed lines of more than 30 guests waiting to check-in. Other than the modern, plastic room-key, the hotel uses some antiquated reservation system that makes you feel like you're checking into a 12-room motel in the middle of nowhere. Sound: The six elevators have been modernized and are relatively efficient. But if your room is within five rooms of the elevator bank on each level, be prepared for a loud night. I've never experienced so much sound transmission in a hotel before. The rooms were average size, perhaps even slightly larger than average. The bathroom was in need of an update/refresh, including better air exhaust and circulation. It had this aged musty smell, and the tub surround looked pitiful. Felt like a 30-40 aged property. There were over-filled trash containers near the elevators on our floor. They weren't emptied for more than 48 hours. (It was the same trash that had accumulated.) It's details like this that make me feel that the property is under-staffed; or that the staff don't care. The room AC-cooler was surprisingly efficient and quiet. Definitely a surprise, given the let-downs in other areas of the hotel. The breakfast buffet was above-average in quality. We were there promptly at 6:30AM at opening, and found it to be a highlight of the hotel experience. Over the years I've stayed at several different properties in this area. They all are of similar age, mostly with similar issues to what I described here. All are extremely overpriced for the quality of experience and service.

Small room. Smelly, dirty dusty. Paid $305 for 1 night stay in a shoebox type room. Very disappointed. Wi-Fi did not work. Bathroom smelled bad. Room smelled like it had been vacant for a while. The receptionist was very kind and tried her best to accommodate but unfortunately my request was not met

Hotel is right next to the huge Ala Moana mall. Many places to eat within easy walking distance and very near a beautiful park with a great swimming beach. The pool complex is very nice with lots of shady lounge areas. Star was super friendly. Hugh end Steak house on top floor with beautiful views of Diamond Head and Waikiki.
Overall service, conditions were not worth price

The location if this place is very nice but the overall condition of the room, slow check in and service make this place not worth the $200+/night most will have to pay after taxes and fees. The overall amenities are decent, but it has limited dining, no hot tub, and very few shops to get things from.
