I found the hotel to be clean, very centrally located (connected to the Ala Moana mall where there was food court and many other stores such as Target and also designer brands). The breakfast buffet was one of the best I have had. There was a good spread from fried rice to bacon, eggs, muffins and fruit. The staff members were friendly and helpful. I want to specially mention Skye, Leigh Ann and one other lady whose name I didn't catch. They were all working in the restaurant (Spoons 41?) where the breakfast buffet was. I stayed at the hotel for 5 nights and did not regret choosing the hotel. Ala Moana is a 3- 5 minute walk from the Waikiki beach. It is also close to bus stops if you choose to take a bus. There is a Starbucks in the lobby. I will definitely come back and highly recommend Ala Moana to others.

I checked in at the normal checkin time, as all hotels if your. Not a VIP check in time will be longer. Anyhow everything appears normal on checking in. I know what I had paid for and didn’t even ask about the room because it’s noted on my bill what I had paid for. Mind you I was in pain because of stomach, back and side pains at that moment in line. I just wanted to get into the room and hydrate and lie on the bed till spasms subsided. Got into the room and I told my wife this is not what I paid for. I booked a partial ocean view with a king bed. We got a mountain facing room with two beds. I was a bit upset and called the front desk. I was upset and in pain and the phone rang and rang for a few minutes before someone picked up. I know busy busy time to call but I wasn’t getting back into the line. Person was really nice and placed me on hold, returned and was sorry but found me a partial ocean view room, but needed to turn in keys for new ones. I was like I can’t get into that long line again but she said go to the front desk and ask for me. Return to the front deck and it was a simple answer fast exchange of keys. The room thing did bother me for a while but I got over it when I got up the next day. On checking out I was like I used up my time for the mistake they had made I’ll ask for a later checkout. I was approved a hour later and felt good about that. But getting ready to check out I have a knock on the door and was cleaning staff to clean the room. I explained I had a later checkout at noon about 1/2 hour till I left the room. I always go to the front deck and get a paper confirmation I had checked out , Well about two hours later I get a call from hotel management that the cleaning staff said I didn’t checkout yet. I informed person I had checked out and have my confirmation paperwork. She said that’s what the computer had about me checking out. I was upset that they could have gone to the room with other staff and check on the room first before calling me. The communication between staff members needs to be looked into or reminded Sotheby’s fast paced industry things changes fast, and get up to speed.

As always, the staff and location of Ala Moana are great! This is my favorite hotel. However, this time I had an uneasy experience--I left the "do not disturb" placard on my door and when I returned, my TV was turned on and the clock was blinking. No one had cleaned my room, so it wasn't housekeeping, but someone must have come into my room, which made me feel unsafe. I wouldn't have minded if housekeeping made a mistake and came in, but they didn't, so who was in my room and how did they get in? Also, I hate the new automated parking system. I want to pay cash to a human being, not go online and make an account and upload my private credit card information, etc. Lastly, the cost is just too high. I stay at Ala Moana often for medical care, so it is not my choice to travel. I'm not a tourist with disposable income taking a vacation. Specialty medical care is unavailable on the Big Island, so travel to Oahu is necessary, but completely out of my budget. Ala Moana's kama`aina rate is more than I can afford. The Accor rewards are useless--I have never earned enough to get any kind of reward, despite frequent stays. Ala Moana should offer a medical rate for locals who are forced to travel for healthcare.

I came with the Inner Research Institute: T'ai Chi school in San Francisco. When arriving direct from the airport, I was asked to pay the full amount for my room: I'm accustomed to paying after my stay. When I asked for a receipt for my payment, I was told I would receive it when I left. If I pay a large amount, I want a receipt right away! Since I was sharing a room and my roommate was with me at the desk: no one told us before we left home, we have to have plastic cards with us to pay. I had my plastic card, she didn't have hers. I waited for her billing process to finish up. Also, there was an authorization made in January to credit me on my room. I heard about it during my stay which added some stress, as I didn't understand where it went. Did it apply when I arrived? But I had seen the numbers when I arrived, and it looked like I had paid for everything and it didn't look like I received a credit. Or did my me and my roommate receive a credit, when only I should have received the credit. I would have rather not experienced this stress during my stay. Then, I received an invoice for the credit from my group administrator, Eva - it wasn't clear where the credit went. When I checked out, I was told there was a credit and it was applied when I left. It would have been better if it was applied when I arrived when I had to pay upfront. Thankfully, I'm glad to say the credit to my card appeared pretty quickly. Please ask if guests know how the elevator key works: I had no idea and wandered in and out of a few elevators to try to go up in the elevator. I heard an elderly woman in my group arrived at 1:30 in the morning with a large suitcase and she also wandered in and out of the elevator not knowing how the elevator key worked. Other than the above, the rest of my stay was very enjoyable. Calling housekeeping for needs was easily filled; the hospitality team was very welcoming, friendly, very warm. It was a pleasure to see staff at my door and in the hallways. Day to day cleaning was excellent. The beds were softer than I'm used to, but it was fine, and it didn't feel like a thousand people had slept on the bed. The rug seemed ok. We did no shoes on the carpet. The puffed pillows and sheets smoothed and tucked in every day was such a treat. Usually, the hot water was hot enough. Sometimes, I wished it was hotter and I did turn it all the way. I enjoyed discovering the different entrances and exits to the hotel. Going into the elevator became an adventure: encounters with people from all over the world. It was like being in the Ala Moana Hotel family in those elevators. Going up to the 36th fl was interesting: a different floating world and the staff was nice. I enjoyed the Fusion Cafe, I got a fantastic pedicure, and I so appreciated all the water filters. I would have liked to see a note in my somewhere where all the water filters were located. I found 3 or 4? of them. I should have asked. I have to admit I didn't spend time at the pool, although I sat there for a few moments in the evening, or use the sauna, or go to Happy Hour on the 36th floor. Now, I have a good reason to return and I hope the steam room works then. The lobby was comfortable too. And it was good to have the convenience store for small gifts, nuts, etc. All in all my stay in the hotel was comfortable, enjoyable and memorable. Thank you for all you do.
