This Summer I was at Novotel Leme at the Copacabana. The hotel is not direct at the Copacabana as might be suggested but one street back. The 4 stars are not “European Standard” I would suggestie 2/3 stars. The staff speaks English at the frontdesk but the others don’t. The rooms are clean, but also out dated and very nosy. There were some people playing loud music and have a party for 3 days in a row till deep into the night. When I complained about this, the staff at the front desk suggested to move us to another room rather than speaking to the people above our room. I was robbed of my phone in the center part of Rio. I asked for help at the front desk. They gave me (the wrong) directions to the police station but no further sympathy or support. When we came back no apologies for giving us the wrong directions and the made additional costs. The breakfast is very nice but also very crowdy. Like I said, maybe we are ‘spoiled’ in Europe but this is not a 4 star experience.

Pros Hotel in good location close to Leme beach and an abundance of cafes and restaurants. Clean and hygienic hotel which smells lovely when you enter the lobby. Good breakfast with plenty of choice and efficient service. Lovely roof top bar with phenomenal views of the beach and Corcovado. Clean roof top pool (although it could be bigger) Good sized bathroom in room. Children's play area in the lobby. Cons There is a homeless community opposite the hotel, and there were undesirables hanging around the entrance to the hotel when we arrived (in fact, we thought it was a hostel on arrival). Reception staff are efficient but clinical. They do not go the extra mile to ensure a welcoming stay. (Be prepared to carry your own luggage up the front steps even if staff are sat there doing nothing). There are insufficient lifts for 20 floors, which results in a lot of wasted time hanging around. Room service is lacking. Food cold, night-time service manager was unbelievably rude. Food presentation dreadful. We stayed at the hotel on 2 separate occasions during a tour. The first time we had a small basic room, which was quite battered (this hotel had the smallest rooms we stayed in in Brazil). The second time, we had a nicer, lighter room, but we had a restless night as the air con would not go below 24 degrees, and the room was like a sauna. This hotel could be a little gem with a few obvious changes.

Arrived here from Buenos Aires where we were staying in the Palladio MG gallery hotel 4 star. This was booked also as a 4 star . The difference was vast . Location is great right near Leme and Copacabana beach . However our superior room was basic. Towels were scratchy and thin . Room was very dated and walls were very thin and noisy. Air con was ok as was shower but no shower gel. Had to ask for our room to be serviced and to have clean towels as these were too thin to be used twice. This did not happen despite seeing the cleaning people servicing other rooms around our room but not ours. Had to complain twice . The breakfast was average and plenty . I would say this is more of a 2/3 star hotel and this is an honest review.The rooftop pool was small but ok .

No - Novotel for us!

Arrived early on a Saturday morning and the hotel were always kind enough to store our bags for us while we potted round Rio and travelled across Brazil. Check-in was terribly painful and if there was a big queue, you could be there for a while! The lifts were also interesting involving a lengthy wait and only taking you to certain floors )one lift only road to the top floor! - Tip more lifts can be found round by the ground floor toilet area) Rooms were comfortable, but the bathroom area had sharp corners while entering the shower that caught me off guard. We ordered from the 24 hour room service late one evening, only to be called 45 minutes later, to be informed our order wasn't available which was disappointing. On the positive side the rooms were nice and clean and the location was great on Copacabana Beach. They were great pool parties on the top floor bar on the evenings we were there and the food was okay in the restaurant for breakfast, although they did run out on both of Bowles on frequent occasions.

Very good experience in the hotel overall, the room is very comfortable. The staff is very warming and always with a smile, specially Denize, in the restaurant support.
