Beautiful, Relaxing Experience with A+ Service

My wife and I visited looking for a relaxing tropical getaway, and the trip exceeded our lofty expectations. The views were spectacular, the weather was great - especially for those who like it hot, every day was 90° F and sunny - and the restaurants were delicious (we ate dinner at La Pérgola, Humo, & Bahía). There were also plenty of amenities and activities, ranging from exercise classes to culinary events, although we enjoyed most of our time at the beach and pools. Above all else though, we appreciated the service that their team provided. The groundskeeping was pristine, each morning there were workers raking leaves, watering plants, and scrubbing the walkways and surfaces, which created a beautiful setting. The guest services team was equally impressive, always going out of their way to make sure we were having a good time. The staff was friendly, pleasant, and extremely patient & helpful with our mediocre Español. While everybody was great, a few praises to our favorite team members: - Camilo & Paula from concierge - Jesi & Leidy from La Pérgola - Edwin from La Plage - Sharon from reception ¡Muchas gracias señores y señoritas, nosotros volveremos! ~Steve & Courtney

Paradise in Colombia

Excellent stay at Sofitel Baru in Colombia. why? first the location in the island of baru, yup. paradise. we contracted a boat service from a dock close to the airport, to take us to the hotel. it was a private boat for the four of us including our luggage. how much, both ways for about $650. worth every dollar. the drive from the airport to the hotel does not sound appealing at all. folks, this is not a cheap hotel. you want cheap, do not stay at this hotel. look at the pictures on this website, know, that it will be much much nicer in person. High definition better, when seeing it with your own peppers. gorgeous, beautiful location. add the people who work at the sofitel. they will spoil you. camilo who greeted us at the dock, ask for him. yuldor, who served us at the pool. andres, the concierge who took care of all our restaurant reservations. jorge, our pool attendant.....i could go on and on. 10 star service in a five star resort. The bad, our only complain, yup, you guess right if you mentioned the beach vendors/hustlers. Be careful. It starts at the airport with the taxi and carrying your suitcases. avoid them. they will rip you off if you are not prepared. know the currency and what to tip. be polite but firm when declining their "services". At baru, the beach is managed by the hotel, however, it is public, like all beaches in colombia. the hotel can not stop the vendors from harassing you. the artisan vendors, massage, alcohol, ski jets, long long list of services for sale. very very annoying. After 2 hours of this constant harassing, it drove us back to the hotel pool. It is steps away from the beach but 100 % private. Hotel has armed security throughout the property making us feel safe at all times. The rest of our stay we stayed at the pool and walked to the beach. beautiful clear and warm water. last comment. great food at all the restaurants except Humo. imho, humo is not worth it. The breakfast buffet is outstanding. get the delicious arepa de huevo from the lady dressed in traditional colombian dress, she also makes killer omelets. Again, nothing is cheap at the resort but, imho, it is worth it. great place to relax and make some memories.

We had a lovely stay at the beach after a visit to Cartagena. It was a wonderful experience. Great service beaches and pools. It was the perfect break from the city and the heat. The coconut lemonade was great. Sunrises and sunsets were really beautiful. Jorge, Escoria and Geider took great care of us.
