The hotel is convenient for a last / first stop for Calais (3 hours) . It is in the centre of Chalons near restaurants and has secure underground parking (for a fee). That's the good points. The rooms and public areas are poor. They look and feel cheap. They give the impression of having been designed by a failed art student. There is no lounge, just a breakfast area and patio at the rear. As others have said, breakfast is awful. At 0830 there were empty cereal containers and other offerings such as the bread and fruit had similarly not been replenished. Scrambled eggs were a solid lump. You are charged for breakfasts in the booking whether you want it or not. Overall it is an expensive hotel for what you get. We've stayed here before and nothing changes so we won't be staying again.

Separation of family rooms and broken furniture

Sadly, not a great experience. I booked 2 rooms for my family, for myself with my partner and 4 young children. Unbelievably, the hotel gave us 1 room on the top (7th) floor, and one on the lowest floor with bedrooms (1st floor). This made it really difficult for us to look after all the children across the 2 rooms. It's true that I didn't specify in my booking that I'd want the 2 rooms to be adjacent - but I've never stayed in a hotel where that wasn't anticipated and catered for, at least by having rooms on the same floor. In addition, one of the travel cots provided was obviously broken; a replacement was provided when I pointed this out. All 3 cots I saw had stained fabric, and need replacing. The air conditioning and bathroom extractor fan in the 7th floor room didn't work, so we had to sleep with the window open and were woken early by noise. The sofa in the 7th floor room was a folded up sofa bed which was very wobbly and unusable, and had a loose bar of metal lying next to it, which was taken away when I complained. The breakfast was good and plentiful, and the location is lovely with a good selection of cafes and restaurants around the central square. But sadly the hotel itself really needs improving and we won't stay again.

We recently experienced the most unprofessional breakfast experience that we have had including stays at many Ibis Styles hotels during five weeks of travelling in France. From the time we arrived in the breakfast room until we left 45 minutes later, staff on duty were virtually absent from the room. During that time, juice bottles were empty, there were no cereal bowls, empty cereal containers were not filled, cheese, meats and other offerings were not replenished. Messes and spills on the benches around the foodstuffs were not cleaned up. One of the coffee machines was not working. No attempt was made by staff to check and re-stock the supply of breakfast offerings, despite a large tour group arriving for breakfast at that time. The breakfast experience on holiday should be a pleasant one, setting guests up for a positive start to the day. As long standing All-Accor members, this experience was not positive, and does not reflect well on the brand. It probably says something that having conveyed our concerns to the hotel management in an email, we have received no reply.

Second time staying here. Hôtel has a central location close to several restaurants nearby. There is a secure underground car park with an extra charge of €12. Room on 6th floor with a view of the square. Comfortable beds. Had an issue with the bathroom, it had not been cleaned properly. A previous occupant left their toenail clippings over the floor. After reporting the problem it was quickly dealt with and on our return from an evening out there was an apologetic note and a ¼ bottle of champagne. The room is well insulated allowing a good night’s sleep. Came down for breakfast at 9.10. Breakfast is basic. The jams were all on their last legs. Scraping the bottom of the jar to get anything. When we arrived there was half a baguette and by the time we left the bread tray had not been replenished. Croissants were overdone. Overall a mediocre experience.
